According to the profound and non-elaborate way of transmission, combined with the essential instructions of oral transmission, understand it in this way. Protect the common and special vows as if protecting your life. Secondly, the scripture says: 'Release the activities of body, speech, and mind, sit in the vajra posture, sing the song of Hūṃ, determine the place of origin, destination, and return, and relax into your natural state.' This simultaneously demonstrates the preliminary practices of Trekchö (cutting through solidity) by condensing the essential points of non-elaboration. That is, from the very beginning of entering this practice, one should completely release all the erroneous activities of the three doors and focus on yoga. If one can accomplish this, it is the best. However, for those who cannot fully control it, it is easier to release the nine activities as the preliminary practices of Tögal (direct crossing), as is usually done. Therefore, at this time, there are two things to practice: distinguishing between saṃsāra and nirvāṇa through the preliminary practices of the three doors, and relaxing into one's natural state. The first part also has two aspects: the external distinction, which is the direct instruction of the scripture; and the internal distinction, which is supplemented by the oral instructions. The first aspect has three parts, the first of which is the distinction between saṃsāra and nirvāṇa of the body: on a comfortable cushion, place the soles of the feet together, with the toes touching the ground, knees outward, spine straight, hands clasped together but not touching the top of the head, elbows straight outward, throat pressing against the Adam's apple, back of the neck straight, limbs forcefully tightened, and gaze fixed on the sky. Visualize your body as a blue five-pronged vajra burning with flames, and stretch as much as possible. If you cannot do it, make the sound 'Ha' and simultaneously visualize your awareness as a white A (Tibetan: ཨ, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal meaning: None), flying far into the sky, then lie supine and relax into a state of non-attachment. The second is the distinction between saṃsāra and nirvāṇa of speech: on a comfortable cushion, sit in the seven-point posture of Vairochana, with eyes fixed on the sky, overwhelming all appearances with a powerful and fierce Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Devanagari: हुं, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, Literal meaning: seed syllable), reciting about twenty-one times with each breath. Visualize one Hūṃ syllable emerging from your mouth, then two Hūṃ syllables, and finally countless Hūṃ syllables, filling everything around you with Hūṃ syllables. Further expand, visualizing all that can be imagined filled with Hūṃ syllables. Then draw it back, filling the surroundings, and then one by one entering your mouth, gradually filling the entire inside of your body with Hūṃ syllables. By reciting the Hūṃ syllable intensely, the entire inside and outside of the body becomes like a sieve. The Hūṃ syllable's --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
