English

I soar like a garuda in the sky, from between my feathers fall showers of fire, thunderbolts, and hail. My lower body transforms into the shape of a vajra kīla (ritual dagger), red and majestic, piercing the heart of the obstructing spirit, Rudra. From within the flames, the ten wrathful deities and numerous minor wrathful deities stride forth, roaring the sound of ‘kīlaya soḍ hūṃ phaṭ (Sanskrit: kīlaya hūṃ phaṭ)’. I myself am the embodiment of all wrathful deities, the great self-arisen one. At my heart, in the center of a sun disc, is a dark blue ‘hūṃ (Sanskrit: hūṃ)’ syllable. Around it circles the dark blue root mantra. From the heart-essence ‘hūṃ (Sanskrit: hūṃ)’ syllable, a ‘jaḥ (Sanskrit: jaḥ)’ syllable-shaped iron hook radiates forth, hooking all obstructors, evil spirits, demons, and elementals, as well as various heretics, adversaries, and Bonpos, drawing them before me and casting them into the burning iron homa (fire sacrifice) cauldron. My lower body, in the form of a kīla, fiercely stabs and crushes them. The wretched beings, tormented to death, their corpses are burned by the fire of wisdom, their consciousnesses dissolve into the heart-essence ‘hūṃ (Sanskrit: hūṃ)’ syllable, merging into the hook at my foot, abiding in the state of non-arising.’ Meditate with this focused and undistracted visualization, reciting: ‘oṃ vajra caṇḍa kīli kīlaya hūṃ śaṃ tri gnod byed dam sri bdud kyi snying la māraya e hur thums rbād (Sanskrit transliteration: oṃ vajra caṇḍa kīli kīlaya hūṃ śaṃ tra hana hana daha daha paca paca māraya hūṃ phaṭ svāhā).’ Recite this one hundred and eight times, visualizing the heart of whatever form appears in dreams or other visions being pierced. In the breaks between sessions, visualize yourself clearly as the wrathful deity, within five layers of protective tents, wearing vajra armor like molten metal, making it impossible for evil spirits and demons to penetrate.’ Visualize yourself as the wrathful deity, dissolving into emptiness. Then, again as before, in the breaks between sessions, visualize the deity's body appearing but not truly existent, wearing vajra armor like molten metal. Around the body, at a distance of about an arrow-shot, visualize a protective wheel composed of the ten wrathful deities and dark blue kīlas, holding the kīlas with the points facing outward. Consider the three elements of fire, water, and wind as one, visualizing yourself abiding in the center of the five-layered protective tent, and recite: ‘oṃ vajra caṇḍa kīli kīlaya vajra kāva ci hūṃ; vajra jñāna pañcara jvāla raṃ rakṣa hūṃ phaṭ (Sanskrit transliteration: oṃ vajra caṇḍa kīli kīlaya vajra kāva ci hūṃ; vajra jñāna pañcara jvāla raṃ rakṣa hūṃ phaṭ).’ Recite this protective mantra one hundred and eight times as well. Fourth, the Yoga of the Black Mañjuśrī (Jam dpal nag po) for Meditative Sleep: This practice should be performed when one is harmed or threatened by curses or kīlas from others, or when related signs appear. At the end of the night's final session, or at the conclusion of other virtuous activities, if combined with other practices, it is sufficient to perform only the generation and recitation of the deity. If practicing this alone, the seven-limbed refuge and bodhicitta (awakening mind) are necessary: In the presence of Mañjuśrī, the embodiment of the Three Jewels, until enlightenment I take refuge. I offer outer, inner, and secret offerings. I confess all sins and obscurations of body, speech, and mind. I generate the mind of bodhicitta for the benefit of all beings. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
