For the benefit of beings, now I will teach the oral instructions for protecting against hail. After completing the signs of accomplishment in the practice of the Thukdrup (Heart Practice), engage in this activity. First, a pure monk should perform the bathing ritual, expelling the gods, nagas (dragons), and local deities from the shadows. Establish a secluded retreat on the mountain peak where the nagas reside, and prepare a new earthenware, copper, or pottery vessel. In a vessel that has not been used, pour thirteen portions of water (if possible), seven portions if moderate, and at least three portions. Add the six excellent medicines, naga medicines, three white substances, three sweet substances, fruits, five precious gems, and five types of silk, as well as various grains. Also mix blessed objects of the Three Jewels into the bathing water. Take a fir branch one arrow-length long, write ཡྃ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari yam, Romanized Sanskrit yam, literal meaning: wind), ཁྃ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari kham, Romanized Sanskrit kham, literal meaning: space), བྃ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari bam, Romanized Sanskrit bam, literal meaning: water), ལྃ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari lam, Romanized Sanskrit lam, literal meaning: earth), ཨེ (Tibetan, Devanagari em, Romanized Sanskrit em, literal meaning: fire) five syllables on it, and burn it. Light juniper, cypress, or any wood you can find, and from midnight until sunrise, keep the smoke continuous. Recite the water mantra, saying: 'དྷེ་ཝ་ར་ར་སྡུས་རྣྲི་འུབས་སྡུས༔ སྤྲིན་སྡུས༔ རག་ཤ་སྡུས་སྭཱ་ཧཱ༔' (dhe wa ra ra dus, nri ubh dus, sprin dus, rag sha dus, svaha) - 'Gather the gods, gather the light, gather the clouds, gather the rakshasas, svaha'. After lighting the fire, continuously recite this mantra until the water boils. When the water boils, add to the end of the mantra: 'ཨོཾ་ཨ་མ་ཧཱུྃ༔ ཐུཾ་རིལ་སྡུས༔ པྲ་ཏི་པྲ་ཏི་བྷ་རི་སྭཱ་ཧཱ༔ ཨོཾ་ནཱ་ག་མུ་ལ༔ བྷ་རི་ཤ་ཡ༔ གྲི་ན་ཡ་བྷི་རི༔ ནག་པོ་ཐིབ་ཐིབ༔ འདྲེ་ཡ་ཡེ༔ སྤྲིན་སྡུས་སྡུས༔' (om ama hum, thum ril dus, prati prati bhari svaha, om naga mula, bhari sha ya, gri na ya bhi ri, nag po thib thib, dre ya ye, sprin dus dus) - 'Om, Ama, Hum, gather everything, quickly, quickly, fill, svaha. The oral instruction for binding the clouds: If the clouds are sparse in the evening, purify a white dwarf horse. Visualize the clouds and mist being bound to the horse's reins, and recite: 'ཨོཾ་ནཱ་ག་ཀ་ཁོ་ཧཱུྃ་ཡ་ཕཊ༔' (om naga ka kho hum ya phat) - 'Om, naga, ka kho, hum, ya, phat'. After reciting many times, tether the horse to its own tether, and by binding the tether, suppress the clouds. If a real horse cannot be found, use clean mud, mixed with incense and precious gems, and bless it. Then mold it into the shape of a horse, visualize it as a real horse, and proceed with the above mantra and visualization. Regarding burying the vase: In an earthenware vase without cracks, place twenty-five vase substances, as well as one conch shell, coral, and cat's eye stone each. Fill it with the above water, seal it with clean white silk, and bury it on the mountain peak where the nagas reside. Consecrate it with the mantra of dependent origination, and after the hail protection is complete, take it out and perform naga torma offerings to repay them. Regarding the oral instruction for suppressing the wind: Make an image of a yak with ten horns from tsampa (roasted barley flour), write on paper 'Gather the clouds, suppress all winds,' and place it inside the yak's belly. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
