If the body and mind are lost, liberation is attained if extracted; this is the ritual of healing. Great king, do not transmit it to others! Do not transmit it to those without vows! Samaya! Ati! Before the Guru Padmasambhava (Slob-dpon Padma 'byung-gnas), the sovereign king (mNga'-bdag rgyal-po) spoke thus: 'Great Maha-guru (Mahā-guru chen-po)! Regarding the protection of the aforementioned poisonous blood substances, is it not necessary to have the stages of Samadhi (ting-'dzin)? Is it not necessary to remove impurities from the substances? Is there no method of mixing the substances? For the sake of concealing from those who have broken their vows, are there no secret substances? Is there no difference in the vessels? Is it not necessary to strengthen the power of the mantras? Is there no method of turning the wheel ('khor-lo)? How does one transform the end of karma?' Please, Guru, bestow your teachings on these matters. Having spoken thus, he offered a mandala (maṇḍala) of gold and turquoise, and chang (barley beer) made from rice and barley. The Guru spoke: 'Great sovereign king (mNga'-bdag rgyal-po)! To become the supreme protector, mere teaching is not enough; diligent practice is extremely important. I possess great clairvoyance. For the sake of dispelling the doubts of future yogis, regarding the protection of poisonous blood substances, all the methods and stages are entrusted to you, the worthy king. Do not show them to others; keep them in your heart. If you show them to everyone, you, the king, will break your vows. For your own benefit, bury them as terma (hidden treasure) in the end.' 'Great sovereign king (mNga'-bdag rgyal-po)! Regarding the teaching of the stages of Samadhi (ting-'dzin) for the protection of poisonous blood substances: first, contemplate emptiness (stong-pa nyid). The view of this is called the Giant God (gyad kyi lha). It will never be destroyed, like the sky.' 'Then, from the substances and vessels, visualize the flames of the fire of the end of the kalpa (aeon) blazing. Like the sparks of a blacksmith, visualize burning away all harmful things. Then, by reciting the mantras, like blowing bellows into the fire, visualize the great fire burning everything away. Transform yourself into the deity (yi-dam lhar, इष्टदेव, iṣṭadeva) of your choice, and regard it as the lord and master. Regard the eight classes of gods and demons (lha-srin sde-brgyad) as servants. Just as a lord commands his servants, visualize that all listen without exception. This is the stage of Samadhi (ting-'dzin).' 'The teaching on removing impurities from substances is: remove all kinds of poisons, but do not remove wolfsbane and earth poison. Wolfsbane is the wolf among poisons, and earth poison contains minerals. Because minerals can eliminate the smell of blood, do not remove these poisons. Remove all kinds of blood, but the blood of pigeons and foxes, lepers, sheep, and those who wear rosaries should be completely avoided. Pigeons have impure blood because they are foolish, foxes have weak breath because they are sleepy, sheep are emaciated, and those who wear rosaries practice Dharma and mantras but break their vows. Leprosy rots, thereby weakening the power. Therefore, do not remove these. Other kinds of blood can be removed in moderation. Do not rely on salt and alum.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
