May the impurities be cleansed! May the habitual impurities of impure offerings and remnants be cleansed! May the habitual impurities of impure additions and subtractions be cleansed! There is nothing that cannot be purified by washing! There is nothing that cannot be removed by bathing! May all discordant and defiled impurities Be cleansed by the water of wisdom! Then (thirteenth) the lineage of incense: Kye! The offering of the incense mandala (Tibetan: སྤོས་མདོས, Sanskrit: dhūpa-maṇḍala, Romanized Sanskrit: dhūpa-maṇḍala, Literal meaning: incense mandala) to pacify existence is, There is incense of fir and pine resin. When inviting gods and demons, Seek fragrant incense, If asked about the father of incense, It is good-quality kusha grass. If asked about the mother of incense, It is auspicious Rubus lineatus. When these two are combined, There is strong-smelling Chinese incense, And fragrant southern incense, And sweet-smelling Mon incense. Also combine white and greyish-blue agarwood, And white and red sandalwood, And camphor and saffron, And nutmeg and mace. Seek such fragrant incense. If asked about the father of fire, It is a sharp blue iron. If asked about the mother of fire, It is a white bird's nest fungus. Place this root on a tinderbox, Ignite the fire, Mix the incense with the fire. On the high hilltop, The incense smoke rises in plumes. In the low valley, The incense spreads. Offer incense to the gods, Like white tarala. Offer incense to the nagas, Beautiful and winding. Offer incense to the nyen, Like galloping horses. Offer incense to the maras, tsan, kings, Rahu and demigods, And to the mothers, the steadfast goddesses, the medicinal deities and the evil spirits, And to the earth gods and the lords of the land. Offer incense to all that exists, visible and invisible. Adorn with beautiful ornaments, Sing joyful songs. With joyful smiles on their faces. Please cover with Torma (Tibetan: གཏོ་ཡས, Sanskrit: bali, Romanized Sanskrit: bali, Literal meaning: food offering) and ransom! Then (fourteenth) searching for the origin of the Torma: Kye! How did the Torma come into existence? Before the beginning of this kalpa, To the east of Vajrasana (Tibetan: རྡོ་རྗེ་གདན, Sanskrit: Vajrāsana, Romanized Sanskrit: Vajrāsana, Literal meaning: Diamond Throne), In the city of meditative bliss, A king named Uparājala (Tibetan: ཨུ་པ་རཱ་ཙ་ལ, Sanskrit: Uparājala, Romanized Sanskrit: Uparājala, Literal meaning: Near King). An invisible voice spoke: 'O King, in three years, You will be deceived and taken away by the Lord of Death, Mara.' Hearing this, he was terrified, Grieved, and summoned his ministers. In the vast yellow and white city, He invited the Brahmin Saya Zan. He was dressed in a cloak and wore a hat, He held up wine and earnestly requested. The teacher, the Brahmin Saya Zan, Made a Torma of a hundred loads (Tibetan: ཁལ, Sanskrit: khala, Romanized Sanskrit: khala, Literal meaning: load) of land, Surrounded by the four continents, Mount Meru, and the iron fence, And offered a ransom of food of a hundred loads of rice. The king was thus freed from the Lord of Death, Mara. I also offer the Torma to pacify existence. Again, whose command is this Torma? It is the command of the Brahmin Deva Gocha (Tibetan: བདེ་བའི་གོ་ཆ, Sanskrit: Śivāṅga, Romanized Sanskrit: Śivāṅga, Literal meaning: Shiva's body). The ransom of King Drung Sho Thang Mo (Tibetan: དྲུང་ཤོ་ཐང་མོ, Sanskrit: Dṛṃ Śo Thaṃ Mo, Romanized Sanskrit: Dṛṃ Śo Thaṃ Mo, Literal meaning: Drung Sho Thang Mo). It is the command of the Brahmin diviner Nyima (Tibetan: ཉི་མ, Sanskrit: Sūrya, Romanized Sanskrit: Sūrya, Literal meaning: Sun). The Torma for ransoming the life of Prince Siddhartha (Tibetan: དོན་གྲུབ, Sanskrit: Siddhārtha, Romanized Sanskrit: Siddhārtha, Literal meaning: Accomplished Purpose). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
