There is also unbearable suffering, as it is said: 'Powerless and at the mercy of others, pierced and driven by feet and hands, by iron and iron hooks; some die for the sake of pearls, wool, bones, blood, flesh, and skin.' These three are the suffering of suffering. Even if reborn as gods and humans in the happy realms, one cannot escape suffering, the so-called 'suffering of change,' even if one obtains the enjoyment of a Chakravartin king, it will eventually turn into suffering, as it is said: 'Even having become a Chakravartin king, in samsara, one will still become a slave.' Moreover, even if one obtains a body and enjoyment like that of Indra, one will eventually die and fall, as it is said: 'Even Indra, having become worthy of worship in the world, will fall back to earth due to karma.' Moreover, even if one is like Brahma, the king of the gods, having become free from desire and attained the bliss of meditative absorption, one will eventually fall, as it is said: 'Even Brahma, having attained the bliss of freedom from desire, will again become fuel for the fire of Avici hell; the suffering is endless.' Therefore, we should rely on (the Dharma). If we speak of the suffering of humans, with the four rivers of birth, old age, sickness, and death at the head, there are countless sufferings, as it is said in the Sutra of Entering the Womb: 'Likewise, birth is also suffering, old age is also suffering, sickness is also suffering, death is also suffering, separation from what is loved is also suffering, encountering what is not loved is also suffering, seeking what is desired and not finding it is also suffering, and it is also suffering to protect what one has.' Among them, the first (suffering of birth) is also the root of all other births, and although it is said that there are four kinds of birth places, most are born from the womb. In this regard, first, when entering the womb from the intermediate state, there is also unimaginable suffering, and after entering the womb, there are also countless sufferings such as heat, cold, and disease. In addition, there is the perception of impurity, the perception of unpleasant smells, the perception of darkness, the perception of prison, and the perception of emerging outward after being fully born. At the time of emerging from the womb, there is suffering like peeling off the skin and rubbing it against the corner of a wall, as it is said in the Letter to a Friend: 'Extremely impure, with a foul smell, blocked by filth, extremely narrow, dark and gloomy, dwelling in a womb like hell.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Having entered that, one must also curl up the body and remain in great suffering,' said the Buddha. The suffering of aging is also immeasurable, in short, there are ten: that is, the complete transformation of the body, as well as the loss of hair, skin, complexion, strength, splendor, merit, and wealth, the complete transformation of the mind, and the passing of time and the end of life. As it is said in the *Great Play Sutra*: 'Aging makes beauty ugly, aging steals splendor and diminishes strength. Aging steals happiness and brings suffering. Aging brings death and also steals radiance.' said the Buddha. The suffering of illness is also immeasurable, in short, there are seven: that is, the suffering of being afflicted by severe pain, receiving harsh treatments, taking pungent medicines, preventing desired food and drink, accommodating the doctor's face, the exhaustion of supplies, and the fear of death. As it is said in the *Great Play Sutra*: 'Beset by hundreds of diseases, afflicted by thickening illnesses, suffering torments beings, making people like hungry ghosts.' said the Buddha. The suffering of death is also immeasurable, as it is said in the *Admonition to the King Sutra*: 'Great King, likewise, pierced by the death lord's spear, separated from food, without refuge, without protector, without relatives, tormented by disease, mouth parched, complexion changes, limbs tremble, unable to act, saliva flows, the body is soiled with snot, urine, and vomit, a terrible sound is emitted, abandoned by doctors, lying at the end of the bed, sinking into the torrent of samsara, terrified by the messengers of Yama (阎摩,Lord of Death), breath ceases, mouth and nose gape open, abandoning this world, going to another world, carrying a great burden, entering a great darkness, falling into a great abyss, carried away by a great ocean, driven by the wind of karma, wandering in a direction without support, there is no property to be distributed, uttering cries of 'ཀྱི་ཧུད་ཕ༔(Tibetan, No corresponding Sanskrit, No corresponding Romanization, Alas, Father!), ཀྱི་ཧུད་མ༔(Tibetan, No corresponding Sanskrit, No corresponding Romanization, Alas, Mother!), ཀྱི་ཧུད་བུ༔(Tibetan, No corresponding Sanskrit, No corresponding Romanization, Alas, Son!)'. At that time, Great King, other than the Dharma, there is no other refuge, protector, or relative.' said the Buddha. The suffering of separation from loved ones is: when loved ones such as parents and children die, immeasurable suffering such as grief, pain, lamentation, and weeping arises. The suffering of encountering the unloved is: when threatened by enemies, the suffering of fighting, beating, and so on. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
