The corpses will also be scattered, and the flesh will be carried away by crows. Seeing the crows cawing, people will say, 'So-and-so has died, leaving a corpse.' Then, others will gossip about it. As it is said in the sutra: 'I will not be eaten by demons but will die, and after death, I will become a topic of conversation for others.' Dying like this is not enough; one will continue to be followed after death. The accumulated wealth, fields, houses, and wives will be enjoyed by others. And the sins and non-virtues accumulated for these will follow oneself. As it is said in 'Advice to the King': 'When death approaches and the king departs, neither the objects of enjoyment nor relatives will follow. Wherever this person stays, wherever he goes, karma will follow like a shadow.' The sutra also says: 'The body is destined to become terrifying, but the mind is involuntarily led by karma.' Moreover, the results of good and bad karma will never be in vain; they will surely ripen. As it is said in 'Karma Hundredfold': 'The karmas of sentient beings, even after hundreds of kalpas, will not be lost. When the conditions gather and the time arrives, they will surely ripen into results.' Regarding the classification of karmic results, there are: the cause and effect of non-meritorious karma, the cause and effect of meritorious karma, and the cause and effect of unwavering karma. First, non-meritorious karma, in general, is numerous, but it can be summarized as the ten non-virtuous actions, which are three committed through the body, such as killing; four committed through speech, such as lying; and three committed through the mind, such as covetousness. Each of these is further divided into three aspects: classification, result, and characteristics, which need to be understood in detail. All of these can be classified from the perspective of afflictions, from the perspective of number, and from the perspective of object. The first is that if these non-virtuous actions are committed through hatred, one will be born in hell; if committed through desire, one will become a hungry ghost; if committed through ignorance, one will be reborn as an animal. As it is said: 'Desire leads to the realm of hungry ghosts, hatred throws one into hell, and ignorance mostly turns one into an animal.' Also: 'The three poisons of desire, hatred, and ignorance give rise to non-virtuous actions, and non-virtuous actions lead to suffering and all the evil realms.' The 'Bodhicharyavatara' says: 'Suffering arises from non-virtue, how can one be liberated from this? Day and night, I should constantly contemplate and meditate on this alone.' The cause and effect of meritorious karma is abandoning the ten non-virtuous actions, which is virtuous. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are ten (virtuous actions). Furthermore, according to the actions one engages in, they include: abstaining from killing, giving generously, abiding in celibacy, speaking truthfully, reconciling those who are not friendly, speaking gently and frankly, speaking meaningful words, having little attachment and being content, meditating on loving-kindness, and engaging in the right path. The results of these actions also include: the Vipaka-phala (异熟果,different-result fruit), the Nisyananda-phala (等流果,result similar to the cause), the Adhipati-phala (增上果,dominant fruit), etc., which are extensively taught in the scriptures. Furthermore, virtuous actions mixed with pride lead to rebirth as a deva (天人,god); virtuous actions mixed with jealousy lead to rebirth as an asura (非天,demigod); virtuous actions mixed with desire lead to rebirth as a human. Therefore, even small actions should be adopted or abandoned. As it is said in the Ratnavali (《宝鬘论》, The Precious Garland): 'Even by committing small sins, in the next life, one will face great fear and destruction, like poison entering the body.' Small virtuous actions can also produce great results, as it is said in the Ratnavali: 'Even by performing small merits, in the next life, one will be led to great happiness and achieve great meaning, like the abundant ripening of grains.' The ripening of karma is certain and will never be in vain, as it is said: 'From a small lapse of mindfulness, fire may become cold, wind may be bound by ropes, the sun and moon may fall to the ground, but the ripening of karma will never deceive.' Thus, good and bad actions create various joys and sorrows in samsara (轮回,cyclic existence), as it is said in the Karmashataka (《百业经》, Hundred Karmas Sutra): 'Actions are various, therefore they make this world various.' Wherever one is born in the higher or lower realms of samsara, its nature is suffering. Wherever one is born, it is a place of suffering; whoever one associates with, they are companions of suffering; whatever one enjoys, it is an enjoyment of suffering, with no opportunity for happiness. Hell has intense and prolonged suffering of heat and cold, as it is said in the Suhrllekha (《亲友书》, Letter to a Friend): 'In this world, the suffering of one person being fiercely stabbed by three hundred short spears is not even a small suffering of hell, therefore the wise should not be negligent.' Pretas (饿鬼,hungry ghosts) have unbearable suffering of hunger and thirst, as it is said: 'Some pretas have mouths as small as the eye of a needle, but stomachs as large as mountains, and due to hunger, they cannot even find a little bit of impure waste.' Animals have the suffering of being foolish and being exploited. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
