'Vajrasattva Mind Practice: A Rite of Receiving Students, Called 'Radiant Activity'. Namo guru sarva kula pataye (Sanskrit, गुरु सर्व कुल पतये, guru sarva kula pataye, Homage to all lineage gurus). Lord of the indestructible three bodies, The sole hero of the three realms, I bow to the master who pervades all families, and write this empowerment and its instructions. The master of all mandalas is gathered here. This is the essence of the profound nine practices of Kama and Terma. It is supreme and cannot be found anywhere in Tibet or India. Knowing this reason, strive to receive it with respect. If a qualified master wishes to lead a worthy and fortunate being into this mandala, as it says in the text: 'To ripen in this secret Vajra, perform the blessings in order.' Therefore, there are three parts to the practice: the preliminary steps, the actual blessing empowerment, and the concluding expansion. Firstly, the arrangement of the mandala and empowerment substances should be as described in 'Activity: Complete Liberation and the Good Path'. If a colored sand mandala cannot be made, then the ground purification and blessing can be omitted, and a painted thangka can be displayed, or a heap of white grains can be arranged on a mandala plate. The empowerment offering should be combined with the text by the government and Gyalsé Rinchen Namgyal. For quick empowerments such as the Longchen Nyingtik solitary wrathful empowerment, only the activity ritual is sufficient, but even then, it is necessary to combine the lineage prayer with the practice of a karma vase or cleansing water. In any case, from the lineage prayer onwards, complete all the preliminaries, and from the self-generation, front-generation, vase recitation, and confession onwards, if elaborate, take the self-entry; if concise, complete up to the throwing of the wisdom flower. Secondly, to the students: How they were born, etc., and wash outside the door with water from the karma vase. After being seated, purify with 'ram, yam, kham'. From emptiness, from bhrum, a precious vessel, vast and wide, is filled with a torma complete with color, smell, taste, and power. Bless with om ah hum. Recite: Sarva bhuta akarshaya ja (Sanskrit, सर्व भूत आकर्षय ज, sarva bhūta ākarṣaya jaḥ, सर्व भूत आकर्षय जः, Attract all bhutas), Sarva bhuta idam balimta kha kha khahe khahe (Sanskrit, सर्व भूत इदं बलिंता ख ख खाहे खाहे, sarva bhūta idaṃ baliṃta kha kha khāhe khāhe, सर्व भूत इदं बलिंता ख ख खाहे खाहे, All bhutas, eat this, kha kha khahe khahe). The master says: 'Listen, faithful disciples. Now I will bestow the empowerment of the Vajrasattva Mind Practice. You should sit upright and generate the supreme bodhicitta. For the benefit of all beings, we should quickly attain the state of Vajrasattva.' After making this aspiration, recite the refuge and bodhicitta verses with me: Recite: Namo (Sanskrit, नम, namaḥ, Homage) Sangye Choedang Tsoknamla Jangchub Bardu Dakgi Kyabsu Chi Jitar Dapa Jepala Jangchub Yela Dang Gyalsamche (Tibetan) (Until enlightenment I take refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha. For the benefit of all beings, I will attain enlightenment.) Diney Jangchub Sangye Jepadang Zhuton Nila Panpa Jepala Gyalwa Yela Dang Gyalsamche (Tibetan) (In order to quickly attain Buddhahood, and to bring happiness to all beings, I take refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha.) Three times. The master says: 'You should visualize that all sentient beings, including yourselves, are abiding in their own bright, pure, and stainless space. Furthermore, visualize yourselves as transparent as crystal, and on a lotus and moon cushion in your heart, a white 'Hum' syllable appears (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hum).' Recite: Om Vajra Sattva Hum (Tibetan: ཨོཾ་བཛྲ་སཏྭ་ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ओṃ वज्र सत्त्व हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ vajra sattva hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Om Vajra Sattva Hum). Recite as much as possible. The master says: 'After reciting in this way, visualize that the 'Hum' syllable (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hum) in your heart radiates light, dispelling the sins, defilements, diseases, demonic obstacles, and karmas of yourselves and all other beings. Furthermore, the light offers to all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and invites their blessings, which dissolve into yourselves. After visualizing in this way, we will bestow the empowerments upon you. Listen!' (Bestowing the vase empowerment) The master says: 'This is the vase empowerment, which purifies the karmic obscurations of your body, perfects the merits of the generation stage, and you have obtained the authority of the vidyadhara state.' (Bestowing the secret empowerment) The master says: 'This is the secret empowerment, which purifies the karmic obscurations of your speech, perfects the merits of the completion stage, and you have obtained the authority of the union of cessation and realization.' (Bestowing the wisdom empowerment) The master says: 'This is the wisdom empowerment, which purifies the karmic obscurations of your mind, perfects the merits of wisdom, and you have obtained the authority of the non-learning union.' (Bestowing the fourth empowerment) The master says: 'This is the fourth empowerment, which purifies the karmic obscurations of your body, speech, and mind, perfects the merits of innate wisdom, and you have obtained the authority of the primordial protector.' After the completion of these four empowerments, you should protect the vows and precepts. The master says: 'You should vow to never abandon the Three Jewels, never abandon the guru, never conceal your sins, and always practice this method. In this way, all siddhis can be achieved.' Recite: Gyalsamche (Tibetan) (We vow to keep this vow) Three times. The master says: 'Now I will give you a secret name, called Vajra Heart (Tibetan: རྡོ་རྗེ་སེམས་དཔའ, Sanskrit Devanagari: वज्र सत्त्व, Sanskrit Romanization: vajra sattva, Literal Chinese meaning: Vajrasattva).' Recite: Om Vajra Sattva Hum (Tibetan: ཨོཾ་བཛྲ་སཏྭ་ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ओṃ वज्र सत्त्व हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ vajra sattva hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Om Vajra Sattva Hum). Recite as much as possible. The master says: 'You should recite this mantra as much as possible, which can purify all sins. Furthermore, to increase your wisdom, I will now give you a wisdom pill.' (Giving the wisdom pill) The master says: 'This wisdom pill can increase your wisdom and understand all sutras and treatises.' (Giving the liberation hair) The master says: 'This liberation hair can liberate you from the suffering of samsara.' (Giving the vajra knot) The master says: 'This vajra knot can protect you from the intrusion of all demonic obstacles.' (Giving the protector cord) The master says: 'This protector cord can allow you to obtain the protection of all the protectors.' (Giving the vajra and bell) The master says: 'This vajra and bell can allow you to realize emptiness and wisdom.' In this way, the empowerment is complete.
