The earth is also useless. At the time of death, all cherished things will be left behind. Moreover, this world is impermanent and unstable, and is of the nature of having no essence. Therefore, through the gate of impermanence, generate renunciation towards all of samsara, and repeatedly meditate on this. At the end of each session, dedicate the merit to enlightenment. In this way, meditate three sessions during the day and three sessions during the night, for a total of six sessions. Taking refuge as the preliminary practice and taking the three vows is the preliminary practice of the session, and dedicating the merit is the subsequent practice. These two are the same for all practices. Thus, this is one cycle of contemplation. Then, all of samsara is of the nature of suffering. In the three lower realms, the suffering felt is unbearable. The happiness of the higher realms is unstable and will perish. There is an immeasurable amount of suffering in body and mind that is continuous. Thinking that one must somehow be liberated from this cycle of the three—karma, afflictions, and suffering—generate strong renunciation towards all of samsara through the gate of suffering. This is the second cycle of contemplation. Meditating that this body is impure and without essence is the third cycle of contemplation. Because the so-called "I" does not reside in external objects, nor in the internal body, nor in between, therefore, meditating that the self is not established anywhere is the fourth cycle of contemplation. Compassion for sentient beings who were once parents, who experience various sufferings in samsara. Thinking, "If only they were happy and at ease," this is loving-kindness and compassion, and is the fifth cycle of contemplation. For the sake of these sentient beings attaining supreme enlightenment, may I quickly attain Buddhahood. Repeatedly meditating in this way is the sixth cycle of contemplation. These are the instructions for the preliminary practices. 24-108 The extraordinary uncommon instructions on the union of skillful means and wisdom. Second, with the body in the seven-point posture of Vairochana, and the mind liberated from all conceptual elaborations, observing closely with inwardly turning awareness, the ground, from the very beginning, is free from all fixations, and without abandoning the nature of clarity, guarding that unchangeable realm with self-awareness is meditating on emptiness. It is also called the yoga of self-manifestation, also called meditating on the sugata-garbha, also called seeing the self-face of non-dual wisdom, is the perfectly accomplished

Also called "Jor," it is the seventh focus. To fix the mind on one's own mind, the deity's form, which is clear and empty like a rainbow, is to meditate on the clear and empty deity's form, which is the eighth focus. Holding the vase breath in conjunction, and in the center of the navel, meditating on the body's interior as empty, there is a four-finger-high candle flickering. Meditate on it flickering, and the body feels comfortable. By the practice of downward elimination and abdominal contraction, generate a little comfort. That is meditating on comfort, which is the ninth focus. When experiences and signs arise in each of these three, from the unchanging, inexpressible nature, the taste of the mind becomes comfortable and clear, appearances become bright as the deity's form, and one recognizes them without separation by the knowledge of looking inward. Meditate only on that. This is the yoga of the great bliss of non-wavering union, non-duality, and ultimate wisdom, which is the tenth focus. These three are the main practice. Next is the instruction for enhancing it and removing obstacles. Third, do not be attached to the experience of the mind's clarity, and recognize it as like an illusion. Likewise, do not be attached to the experiences of comfort and emptiness either. Do not be attached to and delighted in praise, comfort, perfect enjoyment, and gain, etc. Do not be saddened and displeased by blame, suffering, and poverty, etc. Recognize that everything is equal like a dream. Whatever appearances arise, such as comfort, suffering, joy, displeasure, etc., blend them as much as possible into the realm of non-attachment. Next is the instruction for extensively accumulating the two accumulations. Fourth, in order to accomplish unsurpassed enlightenment, vow to train in all aspects of the six perfections of the bodhisattva's conduct, vow again and again, which is the eleventh focus. Likewise, make a vow to train in the four objects of gathering, which is the twelfth focus. Since these sentient beings must be quickly placed on the ground of Buddhahood, but the path of the perfections is also very slow, therefore vow again and again to place them on the ground of Buddhahood in this very life through the ripening empowerments and the liberating path. This is the thirteenth focus. These two are subsequent or branch dharmas, so in that way, it is the same as the thirteen grounds and dharmas.
