Regarding the practice of Śamatha-Vipassanā, there are nine stages of mind-abiding, five faults, eight applications, and so on. If one cultivates Vipassanā based on Śamatha, there are seven types of attention. In terms of the main practice, there are the limbs of meditation, the divisions of the formless realms, and the excellent distinctions of the four immeasurables. Regarding benefits or qualities, there are the eight liberations, ten totalities, eight victories, and so on, which all originate solely from the Buddha's teachings. In the Prajñāpāramitā Compendium by the teacher Hero, pages 23-62, it also says, "The meditation of the second dhyāna, spoken by the supreme non-dual sage (referring to the Buddha)," and so on, as an example. It is possible that non-Buddhist contemplatives who attained samādhi existed up to three hundred years after the Buddha's parinirvāṇa. After that, non-Buddhists did not attain samādhi, nor did they accomplish the asceticism of sages. Buddhists also did not attain the four fruits. Like the king of beasts (the lion), the lineage has been cut off, and the five degenerations are extremely rampant. This is known to everyone in India. Therefore, the monk Sagya's Lha is not an Arhat. Even during the time of Paṇchen Śākyaśrī, the claim that there were Arhats in Sinhala was merely an exaggeration. Not to mention the six heretical views obtaining the path of Śamatha-Vipassanā, even the terminology does not arise. Moreover, there is only contradiction between view and conduct. The Sāṃkhya and Patañjali schools believe that liberation is attained by relying on sense pleasures. The Vaiśeṣika school believes in three atoms and a creator. How could these people have the path of dhyāna and the formless realms? Therefore, these people think that Śamatha and Vipassanā are common to both Buddhists and non-Buddhists, and that non-Buddhists also have the terminology of Śamatha and Vipassanā like the eighth chapter of the Abhidharmakośa, which is a distorted view. Now, no non-Buddhist has attained Śamatha, let alone its oral instructions, scriptures, or lineages claiming to be the successors of samādhi. Even when they had attained samādhi in the past, they considered their own samādhi to be liberation, so they did not think that there was anything beyond that. For example, foolish people may know how to shoot arrows, farm, trade, engage in sexual practices, and fight battles, but they do not know the terminology, explanations, and treatises of these things. Also, saying that it comes from Amarā refers to power and ability.

Regarding ོན་ཤེས་ནི།, it is explained in the Amarakośa. The Four Noble Truths and the Four Seals do not inherently possess a purpose. If he is a Paṇḍita, in the commentary on the Tarkaśāstra, from a prior perspective, there is a superficial explanation of Buddhist tenets. Furthermore, you all assert selflessness. Asking whether it negates terminology or meaning is truly a foolish question. Since it is accepted that there is no self, if one negates the self of another system, what doubt is there about negating the meaning? Once the meaning is negated, unless there is a specific distinction that must be made, terminology is certainly also negated. Even within one's own system, apart from the old Prāsaṅgikas, who would not strive to establish the meaning of selflessness? This way of speaking is that when the self of phenomena is negated through the separation of one and many, and when the three modes are individually established, the meaning of no-self is already established. Therefore, saying that when establishing a proof statement, it becomes the establishment of terminology is based on the detailed analysis modeled after him. The connection is very small. Also, here some think that those who say there is a self are outsiders, and those who say there is no self are Buddhists. It is written that many think this way. Is it not more likely that such a thing exists among sentient beings? Otherwise, is there not much of such a thing? Furthermore, if accepting the terminology of self makes one an outsider, then the teacher would also be an outsider. If merely not accepting the terminology makes one a Buddhist, then birds and wild animals would also be Buddhists, which is irrelevant and minor. In short, what is the use of this consequence without a prior position? However, here it should be examined: it is impossible for anyone to assert a tenet without accepting the terminology of self. Saying 'accepting' refers to accepting a tenet. Even though separated from the view of the aggregates, as the Buddha said, 'How I and mine are shown,' similarly, although all things are without inherent existence, saying 'exists' is shown as the definitive meaning. Merely saying that does not mean that the teacher accepts the terminology of self. In general, the concluding words are also unreasonable, because the sutras that say things exist are not literally definitive, but refer to when the Buddha said, 'What I did at that time' and 'My Śrāvakas,' which seems to be the point. In reality, what the Victorious One said in that way is literal, and there is no need to guide or change it otherwise.
