When Indra, the lord of the gods, was on his precious throne, enjoying the desired pleasures with joy, he was suddenly overwhelmed by the methods of the four maras, driven by past karma and immediate circumstances. When he was tormented by unbearable suffering without joy, he sought refuge in the Blessed Shakyamuni. At that time, the Blessed Shakyamuni, in order to benefit all beings, through meditative concentration, skillfully arranged the great mandala of manifestation, accumulated substances in accordance with the mudra of offering and sacrifice, invited the four maras from the four sources of birth, hooked them with the iron hook of compassion onto his four fingers, and after placing them there, by giving offerings and sacrifices to the four maras, Indra was liberated from all diseases and sufferings. Recite three times. The final third time is: Purify with Amrita (藏文:ཨ་མྲྀ་ཏ།,梵文天城体:अमृत,梵文罗马拟音:amṛta,汉语字面意思:immortal),purify with Svabhava (藏文:སྭ་བྷ་ཝ།,梵文天城体:स्वभाव,梵文罗马拟音:svabhāva,汉语字面意思:own being)。The mandala transforms into emptiness. From within emptiness, on top of an eight-petaled lotus, on the lotus heart complete with pistils, visualize the mudra of offering and sacrifice, with the right hand facing upwards. From your own heart, radiate light, and invite the four maras and their retinues from the four sources of birth. Kye! From the boundless heavenly palace of the sky, obstructing the attainment of non-abiding Nirvana, the hosts of the Skandha Mara and their retinues, please come to this place for invitation and offering. From the boundless heavenly palace of consciousness, obstructing the direct realization of the true nature, the hosts of the Klesha Mara and their retinues, please come to this place for invitation and offering. From the heavenly palace of nothingness, obstructing the attainment of desired enjoyment, the hosts of the Devaputra Mara and their retinues, please come to this place for invitation and offering. From the heavenly palace of neither perception nor non-perception, obstructing the end of life, the hosts of the Mrtyu Mara and their retinues, please come to this place for invitation and offering. Fourth, the prayer for abiding: Kye! The Skandha Mara is white, holding a wheel; the Klesha Mara is yellow, holding a jewel; the Devaputra Mara is red, holding a lotus; the Mrtyu Mara is black, holding a sword. Each surrounded by their own retinue, please abide on the tips of the four fingers. For elaboration, the invitation and so on are found in ancient texts.
