It should be known that it is difficult to reverse in the middle, so it should be abandoned immediately. For those that are difficult to cut off in the end, one should make a firm determination that such things will never happen again. There are three main causes: meeting the excellent lama, one's own mind being workable, and having sufficient favorable conditions such as food and clothing. If one has these three main causes for the arising of virtue, then one should pray that all sentient beings also have them. If one does not have them, then one should gather all the shortcomings of all sentient beings who do not have these three, and pray that they may have them. Meditate on the three that are without decline: learning to have unwavering devotion to the lama, unwavering joy in practicing mind training, and unwavering adherence to the precepts of the three vows. Practice having the three that are inseparable: that the three doors of body, speech, and mind are always inseparable from virtue. Train without bias towards objects: that is, to encompass all good and bad objects, such as sentient beings and the four elements, with the mind. And this should not be just lip service, but should be thoroughly understood from the depths of the heart. Constantly meditate on those who are difficult to deal with: that is, the most difficult objects for mind training are hateful enemies, harmful obstacles, and especially those who repay kindness with harm, one should mainly train the mind on them. Do not rely on any other conditions: that is, to train the mind without any difference, regardless of whether the mind is good or bad, whether resources are abundant or scarce, whether others are friendly or unfriendly, that is, not relying on others. Now focus on practice: that is, compared to this life, the next life is more important, and among the things of the next life, liberation from samsara is more important; compared to self-interest, benefiting others is more important; compared to talking, practice is more important; in practice, compared to examining from the perspective of the logic of wise panditas, it is more important to steadfastly meditate on the lama's instructions. Do not reverse: that is, not enduring the suffering of practicing the Dharma, but instead cultivating patience in subduing enemies and protecting friends is reversed patience; not wanting to practice pure Dharma, but instead craving the wealth of this life is reversed desire; not experiencing the taste of practicing the Dharma through hearing, thinking, and meditating, but instead experiencing

Taking pleasure in experiencing bad consequences is a distorted thought. Not having compassion for those who commit evil deeds, but having compassion for those who practice asceticism for the sake of Dharma is a distorted compassion. Not applying worldly morality related to oneself to oneself, but applying it to the pursuit of worldly fame is a distorted mind of pursuit. Not cultivating joy in the happiness and virtue of samsara and nirvana, but cultivating joy in the suffering of enemies is a distorted rejoicing. These six distorted thoughts should be abandoned. Do not be intermittent. This means: because definitive understanding of the Dharma has not arisen, sometimes doing and sometimes not doing, abandon this fickle mind. Practice thoroughly. This means: without being associated with distraction, devote yourself to practice, and practice single-mindedly. Liberate through both thought and analysis. This means: by placing the object of arising afflictions in your mind, examine whether it arises strongly. If it arises, then cultivate the antidote intensely. Again, observe how self-cherishing is. If it seems to be absent, then think of an object of attachment and aversion. If self-cherishing arises again, then immediately abandon it with the antidote of exchanging self and others. Do not complain. This means: because others have been kind to you, and your practice of Dharma is for your own benefit, do not complain about these things to others. Do not suppress motivation. This means: do not be jealous of others. Do not retaliate for harm or degradation caused to you by others because your mind is disturbed. Do not show even a slight expression, meaning do not show expressions of like or dislike for trivial matters. Do not desire great fame. This means abandoning the expectation of fame that comes from practicing Dharma and doing good deeds. When the five degenerations are rampant, it is the time to transform the path to enlightenment into practical application. This pith instruction of nectar essence is transmitted from the master of Gold Island. It is also said like this. At this time, the teachings of Lord Gold Island say: All thoughts should be destroyed, all antidotes should be shattered. All intentions should be unified, all actions should be decisive. The four pure antidotes are necessary for subduing the border regions. To endure bad environments and evil deeds is necessary in the degenerate age. It is said like this. As soon as a thought arises, it should be destroyed in emptiness. As soon as an affliction arises, it should immediately
