It is similar to what is said in the "Bodhicharyavatara": "Along with giving up everything, giving to sentient beings is the most excellent." It is easy to understand if translated as "with all things that are completely destroyed." In this way, by learning the three types of giving, may the paramita of giving be accomplished. Second, regarding discipline, starting from "of discipline," etc., the three sentences in order can be explained, as some commentators do, as separately showing the three: abstaining from misdeeds, gathering virtuous dharmas, and benefiting sentient beings. Alternatively, it can also be explained as having no faults of broken vows, purifying the afflictions that are the cause of downfall, and having no arrogance of clinging to reality. Here, some great scholars say that it would be better to translate it as "discipline, without the fault of discipline." Third, regarding patience, starting from "earth or," etc., like the earth, it is patience that is indifferent to harm; like fire, it is patience that accepts suffering, for the sake of delighting in and striving for asceticism; one must definitely focus on the Dharma, divided into two types. Focusing on the conventional truth, like water, it is to become sharp in order to know the nature of the vast Dharma. Focusing on the ultimate truth, like the element of wind, it is patience that does not abide in the characteristics of elaboration. Absence of anger is all three types of patience, that is, absence of anger that wants to abandon objects. Or, taking indifference to harm as a premise, according to the literal meaning, it is the absence of anger and its retinue. Fourth, regarding diligence, starting from "initiating diligence," etc., the bodhisattva initiating diligence means that at the time of application, one has firm conviction and joy in the vast armor-like diligence; at the time of the main practice, one initiates diligence that is without laziness, respectful, constant; at the time of the subsequent practice, one initiates diligence that does not regress, with strength of body and mind, that is, without fatigue. Fifth, regarding meditation, starting from "like an illusion," etc., among them, meditation like an illusion mainly refers to the single-pointed wisdom that observes all conventional dependent origination; the meditation of courageous going, its nature is emptiness and compassion inseparable, its function is the self-appearing form body and the appearance of others.
