Just as people do not see butter in milk, so too, here, what is desired, that is, the object of desire, or what is to be realized or attained, the Dharmakaya that goes into the realm of reality, although it exists in all sentient beings, the beings of each world do not see it, but the great saints who have entered the Mahayana see it according to their abilities. And the ultimate seeing without obscuration is only for the Buddhas. The example of milk is symbolic, and it can also be understood by the example of the nine essential points of the heart. Such a Dharmakaya does not need to be nourished by nutrients like the four kinds of food, because there is no birth in the ultimate realm of reality, and it is free from the intervention of causes and conditions. The "living or" here should be translated as "living and." Similarly, there is no death in that realm of reality, because there is no destruction, because the intervention of causes and conditions has been exhausted. Here it is said: If it were to be destroyed, would it be destroyed by a cause or by its own nature? If it is destroyed by a cause, then is it the cause of birth, or is the cause of destruction destroyed by another? This is neither born by anyone, nor will it meet with anything later. Just as the sky is very subtle, dust cannot touch and hinder it. Any other cause of birth will not destroy it, because it has the ability to be born. On one thing, the abilities of birth and destruction are simultaneously contradictory. Birth cannot be simultaneous with destruction, or destruction cannot give birth. If another cause of destruction is needed to destroy it, then that which is not destroyed by its own nature cannot be destroyed by any other cause. Things do not exist by their own nature. From the cessation of the cause of birth and dwelling, it is said that the appearance of destruction arises. Destruction is never self-existent. If it exists, then it will be destroyed at the time of birth and before birth, therefore birth is impossible, and without birth, how can destruction exist? In short, all birth and destruction are only appearances, not reality. The Dharmakaya is reality, therefore it has no birth and death. Some people think that the meaning of no birth and death, just the absence is the Dharmakaya, then it is definitely non-existent in its own nature.
