To grasp as existent what is non-existent, etc., are these characteristics, etc.? Here, the non-conceptual wisdom shown is the nature of abandoning the five bases of delusion. The fifth is: not attending to characteristics, completely transcending speculation, at that time the conceptual mind is pacified, and taking the essence of non-conceptual nature as a manifest sign. This is not a valid conceptual mind, because if it were, then the minds of young children, the second dhyana and below, sleep or fainting, inanimate objects, and clinging to the idea that 'this is non-conceptual' would all become that. Fully understanding the difference between the Lesser and Greater Vehicles is: the path of seeing of the Great Vehicle surpasses the Hearers and Solitary Realizers by five distinctions, because it is distinguished by five distinctions such as non-conceptualization. The Hearers and Solitary Realizers perceive samsara and nirvana as faults and virtues, focus only on the general characteristics of the Four Noble Truths, abide in peace, are completely exhausted, and are connected with the higher path. The Great Vehicle is the opposite of that. Fully understanding the functions of the five non-conceptual wisdoms is fivefold: because of abandoning universal arising, it is 'completely' etc.; because of being inverted and never achieving happiness, it is 'supreme' etc.; because of destroying subtle habits, it is 'afflictions' etc.; because of realizing the suchness and the extent of all things, it is 'its retinue' etc.; because of perfecting the two benefits, it is the distinction of 'Buddha-fields' etc. Seventh, entering transformation of the basis through attention is practicing that very non-conceptual wisdom, which has causes and conditions and nature. First, on the path of accumulation, attending properly in the manner of hearing and thinking; on the path of preparation, extracting the clear appearance of what arises from meditation. First is attending to non-conceptualization etc., because in the samadhi of the path of seeing, one must directly see suchness, and if the main obstacle is identified, then this present dualistic appearance is, because knowing that the appearance of suchness etc. manifests directly, that is how one enters. Because in conventional truth, 'existence' etc. are also non-existent, it is a clear appearance. Because of not knowing suchness, all the seeds of what is falsely imputed as untrue, from the seed of the alaya called 'all seeds', the grasping and the grasped, and the expressible and the expression, which do not exist in reality, again appear as two in delusion, relying on the alaya, so it is necessary to establish different continuums of individuals etc. Therefore, if the alaya is transformed, this harms those who say that there are Buddhas with different continuums. Second, in that way, through the gateway of hearing and thinking. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From the perspective of focusing on or manifesting as mere consciousness, focusing on this is the heat stage of the path of joining. Based on this, not focusing on external objects is the peak stage. Not focusing on the clinging to mere things, etc., is the forbearance stage. Focusing solely on suchness itself, without any differences in things, etc., is entering the supreme dharma stage. As previously explained, the four manifestations, such as the attainment of increase, etc., will arise. Second, the samadhi of the path of seeing, which directly realizes that the grasper and the grasped are without difference, is by nature non-conceptual wisdom. Like eye consciousness grasping form, it has no object; like conceptual thought grasping a pot, it has no clinging to general meanings; and because it does not focus on all the characteristics of elaboration such as existence and non-existence, it is extremely discerning wisdom. Eighth, entering transformation of the basis through the practice of yoga has four aspects: aspiration, individual distinct realization, cultivation, and finally, through cultivation, union on the ground. The first is the aspiration conduct with the name of ascertainment. The second is the first ground with the name of touch. The third is the six impure grounds and the three pure grounds with the name of recollection. Fourth, those with the name of seed, such as spontaneous presence, etc., are for the purpose of externally uniting (wisdom), and are the stage of attaining Buddhahood. Ninth, entering transformation of the basis through knowing the faults. If quiescence does not have transformation of the basis, or if there is no suchness, then there are four faults: the inability to establish the three—the person who does not enter afflictions, the one who enters the path, and the one who attains nirvana—and the inability to establish the distinctions of the three enlightenments. Because there is the fault of having no basis. If there is no self-nature purity, then the former two are unreasonable; if there is no adventitious defilement removal, then the latter two are unreasonable. Just as afflictions and what is to be abandoned need a basis to arise, so too, non-arising and the arising of antidotes need a basis, and this is not possible except for the other-powered transformation of the basis of perfect reality. ‘This is the nirvana without remainder of the Hearer,’ etc., and ‘This is the enlightenment of the Hearer,’ etc., are also only reasonable through the cessation of adventitious defilement removal, otherwise it is not possible. Because the mind of mere consciousness also arises and ceases, and it is unreasonable for what is to be abandoned and the antidote to have the same basis, and because the continuum is cut off in nirvana without remainder. Tenth, entering through knowing the benefits has four aspects. Arising from non-existence, separating from the basis, there are four benefits of having a basis or foundation. The third example is about samsara and nirvana: In reality, things that do not exist, such as form, etc., are samsara. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
