And so on. Because they involve faults and benefits. The ten aspects are: the first three are definition, basis, and individual. Therefore, the next two are merits. Then the methods of attainment, and the last two are faults. The methods of attainment are three: cause, collection, and the manner of holding and state. In the detailed explanation, the essence refers to: these six aspects involve the essence of transformation, which is that by practicing the path, the adventitious defilements to be abandoned do not appear, and the Suchness to be attained appears, thereby making the Suchness become stainless. This is the essence of transformation, and merely knowing it through hearing and thinking is understanding the essence. Second, things involve substance, and there are three bases of transformation: the common one is the Dharma nature of the vessel world, which is the Suchness that has been transformed from defiled to stainless, and the scriptures that are expressed, and so on. There are four individuals: the first two transformations, and so on. The special feature is that compared to Hearers and Solitary Realizers, the transformation of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas is more special, because the pure Buddha-fields have pure appearances, the pure Dharmakaya has pure views, the pure Sambhogakaya has pure teachings, and obtaining the Nirmanakaya has the purity of obtaining the power of supernormal knowledge, and so on. Understanding the necessity lies in: the transformation of the Great Vehicle has three qualities: the specialty of aspiration, object, and practice. The first is: the Great Vehicle Bodhicitta that was generated earlier. The second is: the scriptures that teach the Great Vehicle. The third is: diligently practicing on the ten Bhumis. Involving the place or basis, the brief explanation is: characteristics, and so on, because they involve. The six aspects are: non-conceptual wisdom is indispensable for obtaining transformation, as well as its object, function, cause, object appearance, merit, and characteristics. In the detailed explanation, the first is: in the Path of Seeing, the main non-conceptual wisdom involves the object, etc., cause and collection, which are the four conditions: the scriptures that teach the Great Vehicle are the condition of the object, particularly rejoicing in the Great Vehicle accumulation path is the cause, being certain and familiar with the wisdom arising from thought on the Path of Preparation is the immediately preceding condition, and completely accumulating the collections in one countless eon is the dominant condition. The function is characteristics, and so on: aspects that are incompatible with attachment, etc., aspects that are antidotal to ugliness, etc., and emptiness, which is Suchness, and attachment to the fruit of enlightenment.

It is because of abandoning all four characteristics (*lakṣaṇa*, marks). 1-1408 The *sūtra* (经) states that these four abandon the order and so on. The correct cause is the correct practice and so on, that is, focusing on pure practice, obtaining the appearance of no object of grasping; from that arises the practice of not grasping the object of grasping, although the appearance increases from that, but from that even the practice of not grasping only the consciousness, entering one aspect of suchness (*tathātā*, thusness); and the practice of focusing only on suchness by not grasping the grasper and the grasped, this is the uninterrupted *samādhi* (三摩地, concentration), that is, the four: heat, peak, forbearance, and supreme. Entering the non-conceptual wisdom (*nirvikalpajñāna*, 无分别智) of the appearance of the object with characteristics should be understood in three ways: entering from the abiding of the nature of reality (*dharmatā*, 法性), entering from the absence of appearance, and entering from the appearance. Fundamentally, from the nature of reality and so on, entering, that is, the nature of reality that does not grasp the grasper and the grasped and cannot be expressed by words and concepts, is entering from the abiding, because this is the way of abiding of the object. From the perspective of the appearance of the object in the mind, entering from the absence of appearance, that is, the grasper and the grasped appearing in non-conceptual wisdom, and the expression of how it appears in conceptual thought, and the senses such as the eye (*indriya*, 感官), the objects such as form (*viṣaya*, 对境), the consciousnesses such as eye consciousness (*vijñāna*, 意识), 1-1409 and the vessel world (*bhājanaloka*, 器世间) have no appearance at all. The five absences of appearance shown in this way, just as the five characteristics stated in the *sūtra*, express them as they are: that is, there is always no grasper and grasped, it does not abide in the senses, there is no appearance of the object and no consciousness of the object, and there is no basis for abiding. Entering from the appearance, that is, in *samāhita* (等持, concentration), all phenomena (*dharma*, 法) are like the center of the sky, in the clear awareness without dualistic appearance, and in the subsequent attainment (*prṣṭhalabdha*, 证悟后), all concepts appear as emptiness, illusion, dream, and so on. The necessity or benefit is entering and so on, that is, through the ultimate transformation of the place, the *dharmakāya* (法身, dharma body) is perfectly obtained, and abandoning the happiness of the contaminated (*sāsrava*, 有漏), constantly becoming its nature, obtaining the supreme state of abiding in unsurpassed happiness, these are the two benefits for oneself. Through the vision of *yathāvadjñāna* (如所有智, knowledge of things as they are) and *yathāsaṃkhyeyajñāna* (尽所有智, knowledge of all things), and obtaining the power to teach the *dharma* (法) accordingly, these are the two benefits for others, which are the ultimate result. The characteristic is that through this method, completely and so on, that is, from the four antidotes and so on, the antidotes and so on are: the *dharma*, the *pudgala* (补特伽罗, person), the complete transformation of arising and ceasing, the difference between the *dharma* and the nature of the *dharma*, and even in delusion, denying that there is no *dharma* and *pudgala*, these five are reason. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
