Vibhāga(藏文:རྣམ་པར་འབྱེད,梵文天城体:विभाग,梵文罗马拟音:Vibhāga,汉语字面意思:分别)是分别。

The Collected Teachings of Lotsawa Drakpa Gyaltsen TL12: A Commentary on Distinguishing Dharma and Dharmatā by Prajñāratna A Commentary on Distinguishing Dharma and Dharmatā by Prajñāratna Briefly Explaining Through Classification and Characteristics A Commentary on Distinguishing Dharma and Dharmatā by Prajñāratna Namo Manjushri-Nathaya Homage to the supreme teacher, Shakyamuni, majestic as Mount Meru! Homage to Maitreya, the sun of the doctrine! Homage to countless holders of the doctrine, like the moon and stars! Having paid homage, I will explain these two distinctions. Here, among the Five Dharmas of Maitreya, it is known as the Two Distinctions. For practitioners of Mahayana Yogacara, understanding how the Dharma of Samsara and the Dharmata of Nirvana enter, thereby transforming the state into wisdom, and skillfully demonstrating the method of realization. This is the explanation of distinguishing Dharma and Dharmata, including the title, the text, and the conclusion. First is the translation, such as from India. Dharmā (Tibetan: ཆོས, Sanskrit Devanagari: धर्म, Sanskrit Romanization: Dharma, Chinese literal meaning: 法) is Dharma. Dhārmatā (Tibetan: ཆོས་ཉིད, Sanskrit Devanagari: धर्मता, Sanskrit Romanization: Dharmatā, Chinese literal meaning: 法性) is Dharmata. Vibhāga (Tibetan: རྣམ་པར་འབྱེད, Sanskrit Devanagari: विभाग, Sanskrit Romanization: Vibhāga, Chinese literal meaning: 分别) is Distinction. The explanation is as just mentioned. The translator's homage is to the Lord, etc. The text includes the pledge and the actual explanation. First, the pledge is because there is a reason to write this treatise, because there is a desire for Samsara and Nirvana, etc. It is necessary to distinguish because some Samsaras are equivalent to other Pure Lands, and some Nirvanas must be personally realized. The second part includes: briefly explaining through classification and characteristics; explaining in detail through their respective modes of entry; summarizing the points through examples. The first includes classification, the reasons for distinction, their respective characteristics, the determination of characteristics, and the examination of one and other. First, if we distinguish these two from the perspective of characteristics, are Dharma and Dharmata these two subtle parts of what is knowable? If we know these two, will we know everything? It is not so. Because if we summarize all the aggregates and other knowables from the perspective of characteristics, we will know that they are all included in the two forms of Dharma and Dharmata. Because Dharma encompasses Samsara, and similarly, Dharmata encompasses all that is knowable after the transformation of state. Secondly, if included in Samsara and Nirvana, then what is the reason for including Dharma and Dharmata, dividing what is knowable into two categories? Because distinguishing the categories of what is knowable, defining Dharma as Samsara to be abandoned, and defining Dharmata as Nirvana to be attained. Thirdly, what are their respective characteristics? For existing things, the object of distinction is the grasper and the grasped. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Regarding how duality and concepts manifest, if the sum of appearances is considered conceptual, then this incorrect conceptualization is the characteristic of samsara or dharma. 1-1400 From the perspective of retrospection, mind has the nature of being incorrect, because it is a mind that is deluded by appearances, an appearance of non-existence. Therefore, it is also called a concept, because at no time does it have a true object, but is merely a mental construct. Furthermore, for the non-conceptual mind, the appearing forms, etc., and for the conceptual mind, the appearing expressible and expresser, their lack of inherent existence is the same from the perspective of analysis, and this is the characteristic of dharmata. The fourth question is that other erroneous cognitions have the characteristic of universality, etc., because it is a mind that manifests what does not exist in reality, such as illusions, etc. Other existing signs are also not apparent. Here, both what does not exist in reality and what appears in illusion are reasonable, because non-existence, etc., are unreasonable. This defining determinant explains the established fact, because if there is no appearance of non-existence, samsara and nirvana would not be established, and in particular, samsara is shown as an illusion. The fifth question is that these two, samsara and nirvana, are neither the same characteristic nor different entities, but exist sequentially, because they have differences. Nirvana exists in terms of kind, 1-1401 while samsara does not exist. In terms of kind, there is no difference between whether things exist or not, because nirvana is merely the state of being free from samsara, and samsara is also merely an illusion. Regarding the respective ways of entering, first is the way of entering samsara. The second part includes: the way of entering samsara and the way of entering dharmata nirvana. The first part includes doctrine and explanation. The first part is: distinguishing dharma, etc., through six ways, namely thirty-three characteristics, whether or not there is common existence, and what is grasped, etc. The explanation is divided into two parts: relating what has been explained to memory, and explaining the three existences separately. The first part is: the characteristics of these six ways, etc., do not need to be explained repeatedly here, because they should be understood as briefly explained before. The second part includes: first explaining the first two, and then explaining the last one. The first part is a brief explanation: here, the existence of doctrine exists, namely the realm of sentient beings of samsara, and the realm of the vessel world of samsara, because they universally exist. The detailed explanation includes: first showing the commonality of the container, and then showing the two of sentient beings. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
