The retinue consists of: Śrāvaka Saṃgha (community of monks) with hundreds of thousands of members, including those with learning such as Stream-enterers and those without learning who have attained Arhatship, or a great Saṃgha. Mostly, there are more without learning than with learning, so mostly they are Arhats of afflictions, worthy of offerings by the lords of the three realms. Those who have exhausted the outflows (āsrava, Skt. āsrava, Eng. outflows, defilements) of desire, existence, ignorance, and views, i.e., the four outflows are exhausted. There are no pervasive afflictions of karma, no pervasive afflictions of the ripening of afflictions, i.e., no four afflictions. Because they have mastery over miraculous powers, they have mastery over the environment and beings; because they have mastery over the senses, they have mastery over conduct; because they have mastery over samādhi, they have mastery over the mind; because they have mastery over wisdom, they are liberated from the bonds of afflictions, karma, and ripening, so they have mastery and are endowed with power. The mind is completely liberated from the afflictions of craving, and wisdom is completely liberated from ignorance. There is no residue of suffering, no fear, no residue of worldly dharmas, no residue of ignorance, i.e., no four residues, so they are omniscient. (Having divine eye, recollection of past lives, and the knowledge of the exhaustion of outflows) Because they have attained extraordinary qualities such as the three knowledges, they are great elephants, i.e., great lords. They are the lords of actions, liberated from all suffering, i.e., they have completed the three trainings. Reducing desires and being content are incidental actions, i.e., they have done these things. Because they know suffering, they have abandoned the burden of the aggregates; because they have abandoned the origin, they have abandoned the burden of afflictions; because they have cultivated the path, they have abandoned the burden of vows; because they have realized cessation, they have abandoned the burden of diligence, i.e., they have abandoned the four burdens. Because they have abandoned what is meaningless and attained what is meaningful, they have attained their own benefit, i.e., they have abandoned the obscurations of afflictions, generated wisdom, and attained nirvāṇa. The nine pervasive afflictions that cause rebirth in existence are: desire, anger, pride, ignorance, doubt, views, jealousy, stinginess, and the adherence to vows and asceticism. These pervasive afflictions are completely exhausted. By cultivating correct views and wisdom, the mind is liberated from afflictions, so the mind is completely liberated by correct wisdom. Because they can attain various samādhis as they wish, all the masteries of the mind have reached the other shore. Why are they Arhats? Because the outflows are exhausted. Why are the outflows exhausted? Because there are no afflictions. Similarly, each subsequent one is the reason for the previous one. They have such qualities. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- བུ་དང་ལྡན་པའི་

With the Sangha of disciples: For the Sangha with disciples, it is like this: The venerable elder Mahākāśyapa, and similarly, up to the venerable Ānanda. Including: Jaṭila Kāśyapa, his younger brother Nadī Kāśyapa, his younger brother Gayā Kāśyapa, Mahākātyāyana, Mahākāśyapa, Bakula, Namtru, Subhūti, Revata, Ngagwang, Śāriputra, Mahāmaudgalyāyana, Ājñātakauṇḍinya or Kunshay Ko'u Dinya, Achara, Rāhula, Nanda, Upananda, Ānanda, and all the other one hundred thousand bhikṣus gathered together. Second is the retinue of princes: Those with bodhicitta surpassing the bodhicitta of the Lesser Vehicle, namely, Bodhisattva-mahāsattvas. They gathered from other Buddha-fields, as numerous as the sands of sixty Ganges rivers. All these bodhisattvas possess the following qualities: they are only one lifetime away from attaining Buddhahood; they have attained the six superknowledges (ṣaṭ-abhijñā), the ten powers (daśa-bala), and the four fearlessnesses (catu-vaiśāradya); they have served countless billions of Buddhas with their body, speech, and mind; they have turned the irreversible wheel of Dharma, namely, the third turning of the wheel of Dharma. Merely hearing the names of these princes (རྒྱལ་སྲས), countless beings in immeasurable worlds will become irreversible from attaining unsurpassed perfect enlightenment (anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi). Furthermore, they all possess extremely numerous qualities, such as: Bodhisattva-mahāsattva Dharma-mati, Bodhisattva-mahāsattva known as the initial illuminator, including: Siṃha-mati, Vyāghra-mati, Artha-mati, Ratna-mati, Varāgra-mati, Candra-prabha, Ratna-candra-prabha, Pūrṇa-candra-prabha, Mahāvikrānta, Aprameya-vikrānta, Ananta-vikrānta, Trailokya-vikrānta, Acala-sthāna-vikrānta, Mahāsthāmaprāpta, Avalokiteśvara, Sugandha-hastin, Sugandha-nandin, Sugandha-nandy-śrī, Śrī-garbha, Sūrya-garbha, Mukuta, Mahā-mukuṭa, Vimala-mukuṭa, Ananta-ratna-yaṣṭi, and so on. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
