He abides in a playful posture. According to the Sādhana, the two right hands hold a sword and the gesture of generosity, and the two left hands hold a trident and a skull cup. One can visualize either the bodhisattva posture or the vajra posture as desired. According to the oral instructions, if one wishes to generate the Raven-faced One, then on the right is the body emanation, the slayer Raven-faced One; on the left is the speech emanation, the life-lord Raven-faced One; in front is the mind emanation, the liberating Raven-faced One. All of these are black in color, with terrifying forms, short, thick, and stout bodies, large bellies, wrathful and fierce, with the faces of angry ravens, mouths open and bleeding, three eyes wide open, yellow hair and beards standing upright, wearing tiger skin loincloths, necklaces of snakes and moist eyeballs, vajra wings folded, and a black garuda emanation on the head, radiating the light of a hundred thousand suns. The two feet move with outstretched and contracted postures. Visualize the main deity and retinue all residing in the midst of blazing flames. Then, from the blue-black Hūṃ (ཧཱུྃ，हूँ，hūṃ，seed syllable) residing on the sun at the heart of the main deity, light radiates, inviting the wisdom beings of the same form, the main deity and the four attendants, from Akanishta (藏文：འོག་མིན་，梵文：अकनिष्ठ，akaniṣṭha，Akanishtha), Nālandā (梵文：नालन्दा，Nālandā，Nalanda), Cool Grove (梵文：शीतवन，Śītavana，Śītavana), and Vajrasana (梵文：वज्रासन，Vajrāsana，Bodh Gaya). Possessing the nature of body, speech, and mind. Vajra Mahākāla and retinue, arise from your natural abode, come here to protect the teachings! By reciting 'Oṃ Vajra Mahākāla Caturhasta sapariwara samaya jaḥ', invite them. Offer with the following mantra, and with Jaḥ Hūṃ Baṃ Hoḥ, hook, draw in, bind, and control them. Visualize the samaya beings and wisdom beings becoming one. Again, light radiates from the Hūṃ, inviting the five families and their retinues, and offer them with offerings. By reciting 'Oṃ abhiṣiñcatu mām sarva tathāgata', request the five families and the four consorts to bestow empowerment with nectar, filling the body, and from the excess water overflowing upwards, visualize Vajrasattva (梵文：वज्रसत्त्व，Vajrasattva，Vajrasattva) adorning the head of the main deity, and the wisdom Mahākāla adorning the heads of the others. Then, from the Hūṃ at the heart of Mahākāla, countless offering goddesses arise, and visualize offering to Mahākāla and his retinue, with their respective mudras, and reciting 'Oṃ Vajra Mahākāla arghaṃ pratīccha svāhā, patyaṃ pratīccha svāhā, Vajra puṣpe, dhūpe, ālo ke, gandhe, naivedya, śapda āḥ hūṃ'. Praise as follows: The indivisible wisdom body of skillful means and wisdom united, To subdue the wicked, you manifest a terrifying form. You accomplish the activities of the Buddhas of the three times, To you, Great Black One, we offer praise!
