'From enjoyment, the lord of victors is the emanation.' Thus it is said. The body exists in the continuum for the benefit of sentient beings. Thus, the three bodies without objectification are established. There are eight points: the classification of the three bodies, their essence, definition, differences, characteristics, how to obtain the result of transformation, what Dharma is included by this and where it abides, and how the three bodies are complete. First, the classification of the three bodies is as stated in the 'Ornament of the Sutras': 'The three bodies are my Buddha, it should be known that the three bodies are the collection of bodies, the three bodies are my nature, its meaning lies in having a basis.' The essence of the three bodies is the nature of the Dharmadhatu, which is pure and free from all elaborations. Why is this so? In the eighth chapter of the 'Guhyasamaja Tantra' it says: 'The unborn dharmas have the distinction of essence, with non-conceptual correct view, the arising of wisdom is thoroughly explained.' Definition: Because it becomes the basis of all dharmas of samsara and nirvana, it is the Dharmakaya. Why is this so? In the 'Ornament of the Sutras' it says: 'The bodies of the Buddhas have differences, namely the Svabhavikakaya (nature body), Sambhogakaya (enjoyment body), and Nirmanakaya (emanation body), the first two are the basis.' Enjoying all the dharmas of samsara and nirvana, perfecting all the qualities of the Buddha, and manifesting in the mandala of the retinue, becoming the basis of Vajradhara, is the Sambhogakaya. Why is this so? In the 'Ornament of Clear Realization' it says: 'Having the thirty-two major marks, the eighty minor marks, being the nature of the eighty minor marks, for the enjoyment of the Mahayana, it is considered the complete enjoyment body of the Sage.' Even though the qualities are without inherent existence, they manifest various forms in an impermanent or changing manner and serve as the basis for demonstration, this is the Nirmanakaya. Why is this so? Again, as it says: 'As long as there is existence, to benefit beings in various ways, the body that acts simultaneously, is the Nirmanakaya of the Sage, never ceasing.' There are three distinctions: the three bodies of the fundamental nature, the three bodies of the path experience, and the three bodies arising spontaneously from the result. The three bodies abiding in the basis, as stated in the 'Praise of Names': 'The supreme first possesses the three bodies.' Therefore, sentient beings also naturally possess the three bodies: death is the Dharmakaya, the bardo is the Sambhogakaya, and birth is the Nirmanakaya. Again, as stated in the tenth chapter of the 'Guhyasamaja Tantra': 'The body, speech, and mind of sentient beings in the three realms, Vajradhara.'

Meditate on the unity of body, speech, and mind. The external world also naturally possesses the three bodies: space is the Dharmakaya (法身,Dharmakāya), the four elements are the Sambhogakaya (报身,Saṃbhogakāya), and the various colors that arise from them are the Nirmanakaya (化身,Nirmāṇakāya). As it is said in the scriptures: 'From the vastness of space, the great Bhagavan (本尊,Bhagavan) arises. Bodhicitta (菩提心,Bodhicitta) abides in enlightenment, benefiting all beings.' The three bodies in the experience of the path are: one's own mind abiding in a state of purity like space is the Dharmakaya. Gradually arising as a deity from that is the Sambhogakaya. Performing activities such as radiating and withdrawing light from that is the Nirmanakaya. As it is said in the tenth chapter of the Root Tantra: 'When an embodied being becomes a practitioner, arising from a virtuous mind, then I declare the wisdom body. When an embodied being becomes a practitioner, arising from samadhi (等持,samādhi), then I proclaim the complete Sambhogakaya. When an embodied being becomes a practitioner, with the mind focused on one point, then I speak of the Nirmanakaya. Wisdom, complete enjoyment, and emanation, undoubtedly attain truly. Oneself is Shri Heruka (吉祥黑汝嘎,Śrī Heruka), there is no doubt in accomplishing this.' The three bodies that arise naturally from the result are: the basis that is naturally present, through practicing the guru's instructions, even without desiring the result, it arises naturally. For example, like a farmer cultivating properly, when the rice is abundant, the straw also comes along. From the Dharmakaya like space, the appearance of the Rupakaya (色身,Rūpakāya) arises equal to space, thereby benefiting sentient beings as vast as space. As it is said in the Sutra of Golden Light: 'The Bodhisattva Akashagarbha (虚空藏,Ākāśagarbha) asked: 'The Tathagata's (如来,Tathāgata) wisdom of suchness has no conceptualization, but his activities are accomplished without obstruction, why is that?' The Buddha replied: 'For example, the sun, moon, water, and mirror, although they have no conceptualization, they benefit sentient beings with form due to the power of aspiration.' The Nirmanakaya is the Parinirvana (涅槃,Parinirvāṇa) with remaining aggregates. The Avatamsaka Sutra (华严经,Avataṃsaka Sūtra) also says: 'The wish-fulfilling jewel king, fulfills wishes as desired. Similarly, the Dharmata (法性,Dharmatā) of the Buddhas, is accomplished by constant aspiration. By those aspirations, the ten directions are filled with the Victorious Ones.' Lakshana (相,lakṣaṇa): The characteristic is possessing the seven limbs.
