Because there is a basis for the thesis. Because the mindstream of sentient beings is its object of negation. Because it exists, and it does not exist on that. Furthermore, because there is an object of negation for things, space is its object of negation. Because there is a valid proof establishing space as a non-entity. Furthermore, because there are objects of negation for valid cognition and consciousness, earth and trees, etc., are their objects of negation. Because it exists, it does not exist on that. Moreover, some ignorant people say: 'A place devoid of a pot is different from the pot and substance.' Taking that as the subject, they say: 'That is not different from the substance.' Then, knowable things, as the subject, that is not different from that in substance, because a valid proof establishing that it is not different from that in substance is established. It is acknowledged, because the pot not perceived by valid cognition is a valid proof establishing that it is not different from that in substance. The sign is acknowledged. Furthermore, that which arises different in essence from the pot, as the subject, you are a valid proof establishing that it is different from that in substance, because your proof fulfills the three modes of establishing it in that way. The pervasion is complete, because you are the characteristic of being different in substance from that. The pervasion is complete, because when you are posited as a proof to establish that the place devoid of a pot, what is the manner of positing, etc.? Because that you are determined by the valid cognition of the opponent in the present context. If you want the root, then it is acknowledged. A place devoid of a pot, as the subject, is different in substance from the pot, because it arises different in essence from the pot. All three are directly contradictory. Furthermore, if one acknowledges that there is no pot on the subject of a place devoid of a pot, then acknowledging that the place has a pot is reversed, because it should be acknowledged in reverse. For example, taking omniscience as the subject, one must acknowledge that there are obscurations and that omniscience is without obscurations; taking the formless realm as the subject, one must acknowledge that there is form and that the formless realm is without form. Otherwise, this kind of internal contradiction will arise: knowable things, as the subject, the place devoid of a pot is not with a pot, because that with a pot has been refuted by inferential cognition. Because a valid proof of the force of the object establishing that there is no pot is established. Because the pot not perceived by valid cognition is a valid proof of the force of the object establishing that it does not exist on that. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then, wouldn't the same fallacy apply to you as well? That is, the absence of that dharma (chos) on the nature of that dharma? Answer: No. Because we don't establish the thesis (rtags sbyor) as you do. How do we establish it? Whatever vase is not perceived by valid cognition (tshad ma), that vase does not exist, like the empty space in front. Because that place devoid of a vase is also a vase not perceived by valid cognition. Then, how do we establish the reason (gtan tshigs) based on the contradiction of co-existing (lhan cig mi gnas 'gal)? Wherever there is a basis completely covered by a great fire, there is no basis with continuous cold touch, like many such examples. Similarly, the eastern land is also a basis covered by it. Furthermore, according to your view, that place devoid of a vase should be proven by valid cognition to have a vase. Because it has a vase. If you admit, then is it proven by direct perception (mngon sum) or by inference (rjes dpag)? If the former, then that place without a vase should be negated by direct perception. Because it has a vase and is proven by direct perception. If you admit, then that dharma is not an object negated by direct perception. Because it is the subject to be proven by a correct reason. If the latter, then there should be a correct reason to prove it in that place. Because it is proven by inferential valid cognition to exist there. If you admit, then there is no correct reason to prove it in that place. Also, some unskilled people say that the meaning represented by the vase should be negated by direct perception. Because it is not proven by direct perception. If you admit, then that dharma is not an object negated by direct perception. Because it is the subject to be proven by a correct reason. If it is not established at all, then that dharma should be proven by it. Because it exists. The vase, as a dharma, you should exist, not the meaning you represent. Because you do not exist, but you do exist. That dharma should exist there. Because the place you are devoid of exists. Then, omniscient (rnam mkhyen), as a dharma, should exist there. Because the mindstream where you do not exist exists. Valid cognition, as a dharma, should exist there. Because it exists. If you admit, then that dharma should be proven by direct perception and valid cognition. Because it exists. If you admit, then that and that dharma should be directly realized. Because that and that are proven. If you admit, then the absence of omniscience, as a dharma, omniscience will not directly appear. Because it is a universal (spyi mtshan). Also, that dharma should not be directly cognized by direct perception. Because it is a universal. The reason is admitted, and it exists there. Whatever is either a self-characteristic (rang mtshan) or a universal, is not a self-characteristic. Then, in that place devoid of a vase... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
