If something has the habit of direct perception (mngon sum, pratyakṣa), then that thing has that characteristic because it is necessarily a valid cognition (tshad ma, pramāṇa) in itself. This generality is accepted, and both the argument and the valid cognition are established. If this view is accepted, then the blue essence existing on things is necessarily certain. Furthermore, examples such as 'in meaning, it is the blue of Sengga' can also be applied. The cases dissimilar to oneself are that, in general, if something is a valid cognition, it is not necessarily a valid cognition; specifically, if something is a self-necessarily valid cognition, it is not necessarily a universally self-necessarily valid cognition, and so on. Secondly, regarding one's own view: For a thing, what is a valid cognition? For a thing, being able to derive certainty through its own power, that is the characteristic of being self-necessarily certain for that thing. For a thing, what is a valid cognition? For a thing, not being able to derive certainty through its own power, that is the characteristic of being other-necessarily certain for that thing. If something is an other-necessarily valid cognition, then it is not the case that the thing necessarily derives certainty through the power of other valid cognitions. For example, the direct perception of the auditory organ of the Samkhya school (grangs can, Sāṃkhya) is an other-necessarily valid cognition for the impermanence of sound, but it is possible that a valid cognition that derives that certainty may not arise for hundreds of millions of kalpas (bskal pa, kalpa). Here, if there is knowledge, then it is necessarily the perception of its own essence and the clear part, because if it is so, then it necessarily possesses that characteristic. Furthermore, merely being able to derive certainty through one's own power does not necessarily mean deriving certainty, such as the conceptual valid cognition (rtog pa tshad ma, vikalpa pramāṇa) of constant cessation and omniscience (rnam mkhyen, sarvajña), and so on. Thirdly, the view established by eliminating disputes: Some say that the three other-necessarily valid cognitions taught by the master Dharmakirti (chos mchog, Dharmakīrti), in terms of their truthfulness, the difference of eating meat, and the appearance itself, are valid cognitions because they are other-necessarily valid cognitions of truth, difference, and appearance itself. If this view is accepted, then they are necessarily conceptualizations. If this view is also accepted, then they necessarily can cut off superimpositions. The valid cognitions that Dharmakirti spoke of as other-necessarily certain are valid cognitions for the meaning for which they have become other-necessarily certain, because they are direct perceptions for that meaning, because they are non-conceptual and non-erroneous knowledge for that meaning. Therefore, if something is a direct perception, then it is necessarily a valid cognition. The classification of the three other-necessarily valid cognitions by the master Dharmakirti is very appropriate, and the writings of Dartrika... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the followers, these views of the scholars are not only not proofs, but are actually hindrances. Third, regarding the distinction of examples: The great translator and his followers do not seem to explain the example of the measure of ascertainment from others, just as it is. But Sakya Pandita said: 'Meaning, self-awareness, and self-cognition, and subsequent inferences are self-determined. The initial consciousness and the non-attentive consciousness, and things with illusions are determined by others.' From these measures of ascertainment from others, there is no case where they have become measures of self-determination. Because in itself, it is only a measure of self-determination. Some say: 'The initial perception and the non-attentive perception are not measures of ascertainment from others, because they appear but are not certain.' Others say: 'The sound-perceiving perception, which is called the consciousness particularly attached to a beautiful image, is not suitable as an example of the measure of ascertainment from others, because such a situation cannot exist.' As it is said: 'In some cases, for those with strong attachment, there is no grasping of things that are close.' Because attachment weakens the ability to produce other things.' To think that non-attentive perception is impossible is to acknowledge the previous argument. As it is said from 'Here, all things simultaneously' to 'Therefore, consciousness arises simultaneously,' when consciousness is particularly attached to a beautiful image, hearing arises. If you ask why the sound is uncertain, it is because the conditions for leading to the certainty of sound are not sufficient. Therefore, there is the saying 'In some cases, for those with strong attachment.' Furthermore, for those who are filled with the false notion of mistaking a mirage for water, to think that the perception of the color of the mirage in their mind is not a valid measure, while thinking that the sensory perception of a distant burning flame is a valid measure, is itself contradictory. Here, although there are many explanations of the Seven Treatises on Valid Cognition, most are as illusory as water in a mirage. The excellence of Sakya and Ngog lies in their mastery of the ocean of good explanations, and by their own wisdom and strength, they have surpassed the three realms of knowledge, thus making such an excellent explanation.' A Brief Summary of the Method of Leading to Certainty by Valid Cognition - Dispelling the Darkness of the Mind, is the work of Stan Gcig pa Lodro Tenpai --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
