If, according to the system of Lopön Chawa (Tibetan: ློབ་དཔོན་ཕྱྭ་པ, meaning: Teacher Chawa), one accepts and cites the examples of the two according to the system of Lopön Chökyi (Tibetan: ཆོས་མཆོག, meaning: Dharma Supreme), then these are not in accordance with any tradition of India (རྒྱ, rgya) or Tibet (བོད, bod), but are merely self-contradictory. This will be explained immediately. Therefore, as long as one accepts the divisions of the two kinds of valid cognition (ཚད་མ, tshad ma), both must arise from within this single line of scripture: 'Nomenclature itself is valid cognition.' (ཐ་སྙད་ལ་ནི་ཚད་མ་ཉིད།) Even so, it is not the case that the scripture 'Realizing one's own nature from oneself' (རང་ལས་རང་གི་ངོ་བོ་རྟོགས།) does not show a way of proceeding for valid cognition that determines from itself (རང་ལས་ངེས, rang las nges). For that scripture shows all knowledge as valid cognition that determines from itself with respect to one's own nature. Even so, it is not determination from oneself as divided by the two, for determination from oneself as divided by the two is with respect to its own object to be measured, not with respect to its own nature. Otherwise, determination from others (གཞན་ལས་ངེས, gzhan las nges) would be excessively entailed as determination from others with respect to one's own nature. Secondly, with respect to the distinctions of the reversals of meaning, there is the completeness of the meaning and the detailed division of the systems. There are three systems: one system that holds that valid cognition is pervaded only by determination from others; one system that holds that it is pervaded only by determination from oneself; and one system that holds that both exist. This latter system also has three: one system that holds that the term 'valid cognition' as the designatum is determination from oneself and determination from others; one system that holds that the definition of non-deception is determination from oneself and determination from others; and one system that posits determination from oneself and determination from others with respect to its own object to be measured. It is said that the first system is the thought of the great Brahmin Śaṃkarananda. The second is the tenet of Khyung Rinchen Drak (Tibetan: ཁྱུང་རིན་ཆེན་གྲགས, meaning: Khyung Precious Fame). The third is the system of the great Tibetan (གངས་ཅན, gangs can) logicians Sa (ས་, Sa) and Ngok (རྔོག, Ngok). The first of these three systems seems to be the view of those who do not understand logic, so there is no need to examine it. The second is the view of the great translator (ལོ་ཆེན, lo chen) Chökyi Khyen (Tibetan: ཆོས་ཀྱི་སྤྱན, meaning: Eye of Dharma), Tukse Drolungpa Chenpo (Tibetan: ཐུགས་སྲས་གྲོ་ལུང་པ་ཆེན་པོ, meaning: Great Spiritual Son Drolungpa), and the Lord of Reasoning Chawa (Tibetan: ཕྱྭ་པ, meaning: Chawa), and their intention is that the non-deception of the object to be measured is to obtain the object to be measured, and there are two ways of obtaining it: certain obtaining and possible obtaining. The first is determination from oneself, and the latter is determination from others. The third system is the stainless tenet of Jamyang Chökyi Je Sakya Paṇḍita (Tibetan: འཇམ་དབྱངས་ཆོས་ཀྱི་རྗེ་ས་སྐྱ་པཎྜི་ཏ, meaning: Mañjughoṣa Dharma Lord Sakya Paṇḍita), and as long as one accepts the divisions of the two, one must explain it on this basis. Whether the object to be measured can be ascertained by its own power or not is the key to non-deception.
