What is accomplished by relying on? At that time, like mercury on iron. The Vajra body, speech, and mind, The skillful means of accomplishment, should be well known. This was well composed by the glorious Śākya Supreme Possessor, Immaculate Good Intellect, at the beginning of the autumn month of the Fire Male Tiger year, urged by the words of the Great Protector King, victorious in all directions, and the scribe was Sonam Yeshe Lhundrup. Om Svasti Siddham! Born of a hundred merits, producing various things. Always unchanging, dwelling in bliss. And also the one who dances in ten forms, Your lotus feet, also named Son of Śākya. Your holy words, leading to this Tibetan land. Manifesting as the body of Avalokiteśvara, the King. The path of higher rebirth and definite goodness, Spread through the ten virtues and the combination of letters. Thereafter, Jamyang (mañjuśrī,文殊菩萨) the Accomplisher of Speech, During the reign of King Trisong Detsen, At the age of nine hundred and ninety-nine, The Great Abbot Śāntarakṣita came here. The vast ocean of profound teachings, Especially the complete Vinaya (monastic discipline), Including all the explanations and transmissions, was first established. He remained for two hundred years. Thereafter, when the Vinaya was interrupted, Obscured by black clouds, Like a bean sprout, Lobsang began, Going to the edge of Do-mad (Eastern Tibet). At that time, at the age of one hundred, The ten people of Ü-Tsang (Central Tibet), Complete with all the Vinaya ordinations, Invited to the various, Great monasteries, which greatly increased. Because the Sarvāstivāda (yod smra,说一切有部) school is consistent, And the boundaries are different, The Sangha (community) did not separate, Living harmoniously and happily, This situation continues to this day, About six hundred years. At that time, a holder of the Vinaya named Mönlam Ö, Established all the practices such as the three bases, And it is said that it has never been interrupted. Thereafter, at some later time, The incomparable Kashmiri Great Paṇḍita arrived. The Vinaya's arising, abiding, and, Restoration, complete with all the branches, The three bases ritual every year, Continues uninterrupted. Most of the merits of studying, Lie in the great tradition of practicing the Vinaya. Established without error until today, About two hundred and fifty years. For the sake of the term of practicing the Vinaya, Although the distinction between pure and impure Vinaya lineages is difficult, This is considered superior because of the Khenpo (abbot) lineage and, The merits of study. In order not to go near or far, The method is the Uposatha (gso --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The accumulation of merits through practice, its growth lies in the summer retreat, from faults, the supreme methods for pacifying disputes and quarrels, flawlessly practicing the rituals of purification. When and for how long, as desired by the two founders. If done this way, learning and practice will be extensive, and body and mind will be at ease. This comes from the words of the scholar Buton. His intention is that autumn harvests, etc., identifying worldly treatises, each month has its special characteristics, this is established by his saying so. May there be good fortune and accomplishment). In the Kalachakra and many other scriptures, the distinctions between the Paramitas and the Secret Mantras, the basis, path, and result are differentiated. The root of samsara is the habituation of transference, self-grasping, and the antidote, immutable bliss, the realization of selflessness, and the result as well, all twelve great transferences, are the state of cessation and all-pervading light. Some things not explained by previous generations will be explained here. The so-called habituation of transference is the craving attachment to the bliss of the transferred element. This, for those with a human body, is the cause for generating and maintaining samsara. It is generally thought not to be so. The reason for saying this is to gladly accept the antidote, immutable bliss, and because what harms things is not an incompatible phenomenon. Next, explaining a little more extensively, those determined as Hinayana, the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, and those determined as Anuttarayoga, although they are the same in destroying the root of existence, the samsara of this life, temporarily holding on, not even for a moment, do not want to hold on, having the characteristic of wanting to abandon, fearing the aggregates, holding on in order to perfect the accumulation of merit, even fearing, without the ultimate of meditation and cessation, one cannot abandon. The common Mahayana schools, the ignorance that is the root of existence, is accomplished by intentionally abandoning it, craving is not intentionally cultivated to be abandoned. The accumulation of three countless eons, until it has not reached completion, until then, residing in samsara, it will not be interrupted. Those determined as Anuttarayoga, the cause for being born into another existence, does not need to be intentionally abandoned, merely cutting off the continuum of contaminated aggregates is sufficient. Cutting off the continuum of samsara, one cannot cut it off as long as the accumulation has not been completed. Until then, holding onto contaminated aggregates, the habituation of transference, why? Because it has transferred into the path of grasper and grasped, the continuum of existence of the grasped, generating and increasing, until then, the great wind of transference will also cease. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
