'Bodhisattvas' conduct, together with the pāramitās, is shown as virtuous friendship.' Where is the place where the Bodhisattva first engages in action? With superior intention, they enter the supreme enlightenment of the Buddha. Good disciples, respectful lamas, should always rely on wise teachers. Why? Because the qualities of the wise arise from this. They reveal the Prajñāpāramitā. Second, the benefits of hearing it from that: As it is said: 'A person who enters the solitary path, having traveled many yojanas, sees the abundant forest at the boundary of the herdsman, thinking: These are signs of approaching villages and cities.' Breath is recovered, and there is no fear of thieves. Similarly, those great beings who seek complete enlightenment, by hearing this Prajñāpāramitā, will gain the recovery of breath and be fearless. It is neither the Arhat ground nor the Pratyekabuddha ground. If someone goes to see the ocean, if they see trees, forests, and mountains, thinking: If these signs are not seen, the great ocean is near, there is no doubt about it. Similarly, those victors who have entered the supreme enlightenment should listen to this Prajñāpāramitā. Even if not personally prophesied by the guide, attaining Buddhahood will not be long before one touches it. When spring comes, the leaves of the trees fall, and the branches will soon produce fruits and flowers. Whoever obtains this Prajñāpāramitā will soon attain the enlightenment of the guides. For example, when a pregnant woman feels pain and danger, it means that her delivery time is approaching. Similarly, when a Bodhisattva hears the wisdom of the victors, generating joy and desire, they will quickly touch enlightenment.' Third, the benefits of learning the words and meanings are divided into the benefits of holding the words and the benefits of learning the meanings. First: As it is said: 'The Prajñāpāramitā is the protector of beings, whoever reverently practices, holds, and realizes it, poison, weapons, fire, and water cannot harm them. Demons and their retinues will not find an opportunity either.' Second: As it is said: 'Learning this vidyā-mantra will become the supreme king of medicine.' Those who practice with benefit and compassion, after learning this vidyā-mantra, the wise will attain enlightenment. Whether it is conditioned happiness or unconditioned happiness, all happiness arises from this. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One should understand how it arises. When a seed is planted in the ground, it grows by relying on the earth; when a collection [of causes and conditions] is gathered, various forms are born. All the perfections and qualities of enlightenment arise from the Perfection of Wisdom. From which path does a universal monarch always travel? It is from that very path that he obtains the seven precious things and the entire army. From which path does the Perfection of Wisdom of the Buddhas proceed? It is from that very path that all qualities and dharmas arise. Thus it was said. Fourth, the benefit of showing [it] to others is: As it is said: Just as a lion, relying on a mountain cave, is fearless, and small animals are frightened and roar; a lion among humans, relying on the Perfection of Wisdom, frightens many non-Buddhists and roars fearlessly. Just as the rays of the sun dwelling in the sky dry up this earth and clearly reveal forms; likewise, a Dharma king, relying on the Perfection of Wisdom, dries up the ocean of existence and clearly reveals the Dharma. Thus it was said. The Benefit of Understanding the Madhyamaka (Middle Way) of the Expressed Meaning Third, the benefits of understanding the Madhyamaka of the expressed meaning are threefold: the ground Madhyamaka, free from all expression; the path Madhyamaka, liberated from clinging to characteristics; the result Madhyamaka, all elaboration completely pacified. Having mastered these three, there are three kinds of benefits. The Benefit of the Ground Madhyamaka, Free from All Expression First, recognizing the ground Madhyamaka, which is free from expression, mastering this brings benefits. The first point is divided into two parts: First, it must be explained that analysis with discriminating wisdom must precede it; after analyzing in this way, seeing nothing at all, like a cloudless sky, this is explained as the Madhyamaka of the ground. The first part is: As it is said: 'For example, the work of painting is not complete without eyes; just as one does not receive payment unless the eyes are painted. When one analyzes conditioned, unconditioned, black, and white dharmas with wisdom, and does not perceive even a particle, in the world, one is counted as the Perfection of Wisdom.' It is proclaimed that 'consciousness is the near shore'; analyzing and abandoning consciousness, one goes to the far shore. Those who are free from consciousness, this is subsequent attainment; they rely on the Perfection of Wisdom and abide in the Buddha's teachings. Thus it was said. And as it is said in the sutra: 'Just as one seeks to reach the bottom of the ocean with an arrow, if one investigates with wisdom, one cannot find the bottom of the aggregates.' Thus it was said. The second part is: As it is said: 'One does not see forms, and even seeking, one does not see them; there is no seeing of feelings and perceptions, and the mind is not seen.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
