Although it is said to be for Nirvana, know that by contemplating the sixteen aspects of the Four Noble Truths (བདེན་བཞི་, Sanskrit: catvāri āryasatyāni, Romanization: catvāri āryasatyāni, Four Noble Truths) such as impermanence, there is no doubt that one can be liberated from samsara. The 'Friendly Letter' (Bśes sprin) says: 'Liberation depends on oneself,' etc. Furthermore, it is said in many sutras, tantras, and treatises that Śrāvakas (ཉན་ཐོས་, Sanskrit: Śrāvaka, Romanization: Śrāvaka, Hearers) and Pratyekabuddhas (རང་རྒྱལ་, Sanskrit: Pratyekabuddha, Romanization: Pratyekabuddha, Solitary Realizers) do not contemplate all phenomena as empty. The Lankavatara Sutra says: 'Great Wisdom (བློ་གྲོས་ཆེན་པོ།, Sanskrit: Mahāmati, Romanization: Mahāmati, Great Wisdom), the obscuration of knowledge (ཤེས་བྱའི་སྒྲིབ་པ་, Sanskrit: jñeyāvaraṇa, Romanization: jñeyāvaraṇa, cognitive obscuration) is completely purified by the distinction of seeing the selflessness of phenomena (ཆོས་ལ་བདག་མེད་, Sanskrit: dharma-nairātmya, Romanization: dharma-nairātmya, selflessness of phenomena). The obscuration of afflictions (ཉོན་མོངས་པའི་སྒྲིབ་པ་, Sanskrit: kleśāvaraṇa, Romanization: kleśāvaraṇa, afflictive obscuration) is completely purified by the distinction of seeing the selflessness of persons (གང་ཟག་བདག་མེད་, Sanskrit: pudgala-nairātmya, Romanization: pudgala-nairātmya, selflessness of person),' etc. Je Tsongkhapa in his commentary on the Samputa, in the section 'Non-duality, abandoning duality,' and in his commentary on the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra, in the section 'Mind and object,' and also Jetsun Rinpoche hold this view. Je Sa-pan in his 'Illuminating the Intent of the Able One' (Thub pa dgongs gsal) says: 'If one does not realize the selflessness of persons, there is no difference from the practice of non-Buddhists; if one does not realize the selflessness of phenomena, there is no difference from the practice of Hearers.' It is clearly stated that Hearers do not realize the selflessness of phenomena. In the 'Distinguishing the Excellent and Inferior' (Rab dbye), the meaning of 'Hearers also contemplate emptiness' is the emptiness of the self-existent substance of a self-governing person. In the Pramāṇavārttika, 'with the view of emptiness,' etc., also has this meaning. Although the dedication of merit of Hearers can be dedicated to Buddhahood, they cannot attain Buddhahood because they lack the Bodhicitta of exchanging self and others. The Vinaya Pitaka ('Dul lung) is the common reason for both the Great Vehicle and the Lesser Vehicle, explaining the view, practice, conduct, and result of both vehicles. The Lesser Vehicle is clear, while the Great Vehicle is emptiness, non-arising, etc., and the Brahmin's desire for self, etc. Furthermore, although many distinctions of the Great Vehicle are mentioned, the exchange of self and others is not mentioned. In the 'Distinguishing the Excellent and Inferior,' please refer to 'Hearers and the Great Vehicle differ in the order of views,' etc. The second common topic is the Bodhisattva Vehicle, which surpasses the Hearer and Solitary Realizer Vehicles in realization, briefly explained through the seven greatnesses, and explained in detail by elaborating on the qualities of the lands and paths, which is clear in the 'General Presentation of the Tantra Class' (rGyud sde spyi rnam), etc. Detailed Explanation of the Uniquely Superior Vajrayana: The second common topic is the detailed explanation of the uniquely superior Vajrayana, which is divided into two parts: the common topic that establishes its foundation, and the meaning of the branches that are to be established. The first part is divided into three points: identifying the categories of names of the Vajrayana, and understanding the names of the identified categories. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
