Regarding the restoration of life, the causes of life's decline, the signs of decline, the restorer guru, and the manner of restoration, these are explained in the Four Tantras. First, the causes of life's decline are: broken vows, mental turmoil, discouragement, panic, as well as intense hatred, curses, punishments, violations of vows of body, speech, and mind, and moving to inauspicious places. These will lead to the decline of life, unstable breath, and being controlled by demons. Second, the signs of decline are: anger towards the retinue, uttering cries of sorrow, changes in facial expression, improper behavior, the guru and benefactor being past their prime, and food not being to one's liking. These are the signs of decline. Third, the restorer guru is: one who is capable of subtle samadhi, is proficient in the meaning of the tantras and has received empowerment, and possesses great blessings and close oath-bound protectors. Whichever of these three is relied upon, restoration can be achieved. Finally, the manner of restoration is: the ritual methods of how to restore, there are many profound and vast instructions. Here, according to what is said in the Nectar Stream of Immortal Life Tantra, the Amitayus practice related to Anuttarayoga, is practiced according to the tradition of the great guru Shakya Guxi, who attained supreme accomplishment. Binding with the seven life-force cords, which is what is said in the Seven Limbs of Condensed Life: life-force stabilization, life mandala, summoning the nature of life, binding life, ransoming life, life empowerment merging. Visualize light radiating from the heart of the master, purifying the disciple's body of karmic formation, making it invisible. Within emptiness, upon a jeweled throne of lotus, sun, and moon stacked upon each other, raised by peacocks, you yourself transform from Āṃ (Tibetan, Devanagari: आं, Romanized Sanskrit: āṃ, Literal meaning: Seed syllable) into the Protector Amitayus and Wisdom, etc., visualizing yourself as the principal deity in union. Bless the three places. From Hūṃ (Tibetan, Devanagari: हुं, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, Literal meaning: Seed syllable) radiate light, inviting all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas to manifest as the assembly of Amitayus, visualizing them dissolving gently from your crown.
