Even when the virtues of the earth manifest, abandon pride and arrogance; even when realizing the non-duality of samsara and nirvana, do not sever the continuity of compassion for sentient beings. Thus it was said. Again, the king asked: What is it that generates definitive knowledge? The teacher replied: Generate definitive knowledge that your own mind is primordially enlightened; generate definitive knowledge that all phenomena are manifestations of mind; generate definitive knowledge that since the result resides within oneself, there is no need to seek it elsewhere; generate definitive knowledge that the lama is the actual Buddha; generate definitive knowledge that the meaning of view and meditation is the very intention of the Buddha, and it must be practiced. Again, the king asked: What is it that possesses the oral instructions in the lineage? The teacher said: Kuntuzangpo (藏文:ཀུན་ཏུ་བཟང་པོ།) blessed and spoke this secret talk into the ear of Vajrasattva (藏文:རྡོ་རྗེ་སེམས་དཔའ།) ; he poured it into the ear-cauri of the emanation Garab Dorje (藏文:དགའ་རབ་རྡོ་རྗེ།) ; he entrusted it to the heart-center of Shri Singha (藏文:ཤྲཱི་སིཾ་ཧ།) ; he granted his heart-lotus to me; Trisong Detsen (藏文:ཁྲི་སྲོང་ལྡེ་བཙན།) , enter into the center of your heart. The teacher advised the king: One god! If you do not realize the one meaning of the unborn nature of reality, even if your body is born as a king, it is like a water bubble without longevity; if you do not enjoy the inconceivable nature of reality, the power of the kingdom is like a rainbow painting; if awareness does not associate with the self-arisen friend, the lord and retinue are like guests in an inn, each going their own way; if you do not meditate on the actual meaning of the abiding nature of view and meditation, the cycle of birth and death is like the turning of a waterwheel, revolving from one place to another; if you do not govern the kingdom with peaceful Dharma, even if you bind it with laws, it is like a poisonous tree, leading to your own destruction. Great king, please enact Dharma and laws. Again, the teacher advised: King, in the final age, everyone wants to say good words, but no one actually realizes it; many claim to be practitioners without acting according to the Dharma; in that time, there are few accomplished ones, and much quarreling; Tibetans and Chinese will be like birds with broken strings, difficult to tame; in that time, it is necessary to protect the Dharma and teachings, so king, please bury them as treasures; the king himself will also meet with those who protect the Dharma and teachings in the final rebirth; at that time, because you will sever the cycle of rebirth and go to the realm of the vidyadharas, do not transmit it to others. After advising thus, the king was very pleased, and gold

Offered the mandala. Made countless prostrations and circumambulations. Treasure seal. Hidden seal. Entrusted seal. Again, at that time, the king prostrated and circumambulated, then asked the master: Great Master, I, a king like this, have little faith, crave fame and profit, am not devout in Dharma, am malicious, have little virtuous mind, have heavy sins, do not rely on Dharma, am distracted and fond of merit. Although I have good fortune in this life, I have no fear of going to the lower realms in the next life. Please look upon me with compassion, please grant me the essential instruction for attaining Buddhahood at the time of death. Having said that, he kept rubbing his head on the ground and shed tears. The master thought in his heart, then extracted the essence of the essential instruction and gave it to him: Emaho! It is truly amazing that faith arises from the depths of the heart! At the time of death, King, you do not need to worry. Because I possess the essential instruction of the secret mantra shortcut, which allows the most sinful to attain Buddhahood in advance, and possess the essential instruction without the bardo. Prince, listen. We are born by first entering the womb due to the causes and conditions of ignorance and the power of karma. In the middle, we live on the earth for a few years. Finally, at the time of death, the corpse remains on the earth. The mind, under the control of karma, takes and abandons bodies in the six realms, so it wanders in samsara. The master said, even if we live to the end of our lives, it is only a hundred years. Half of that life is spent sleeping at night, like a corpse. In dreams, we experience various kinds of happiness and suffering. Therefore, including appearances, there are only fifty years. This is still calculated based on living to a hundred years. If it is not like this, being born and dying is a natural law. Therefore, we act as if we will never die, engaging in various kinds of attachment and aversion, because we have not thought of death. The time of death is not fixed, and we do not know when we will die. There are many causes of death, so there is not even the power to not die for a single day. King, listen. There are three ways of dying: superior, middling, and inferior. Dying like you, a king, attached to your territory and enjoyment, is an inferior way of dying. At the time of death, do not have attachment and clinging. Dying like a beggar, without attachment to any wealth or possessions, is a middling way of dying. Dying like a wild animal,
