Among the seven aspects of mind training, the first is to contemplate that all conditioned phenomena are impermanent. First, contemplate the formation and destruction of the outer container and inner contents, and meditate on impermanence; second, contemplate one's own illusory body and aggregates, and meditate on impermanence; third, secretly contemplate the causes of death of one's relatives and friends, and meditate on impermanence, which is remembering the meaning; for example, contemplate like a water bubble, and meditate, which is remembering the example; finally, mix the example and the meaning and meditate. The second is to contemplate that all the happiness of samsara is not permanent, and thus train the mind. Contemplate that the three realms are not beyond the three sufferings, which is remembering the meaning; for example, contemplate that the fruit of a poisonous tree is beautiful and pleasing to look at, and tastes sweet when eaten, but it will cause death when it enters the stomach, which is remembering the example; finally, mix the example and the meaning and meditate. The third is to contemplate various conditions, and thus train the mind. Contemplate that the happiness and suffering of this life's activities, subduing enemies, protecting relatives, doing business, farming, and the eight worldly dharmas, etc., all activities have no time to finish, and thus meditate on abandoning all the activities of this life, which is remembering the meaning; for example, contemplate like a deer chasing the water of a mirage in summer, which is remembering the example; again, mix the example and the meaning and meditate. The fourth is to contemplate that all the activities of this life are meaningless, and thus train the mind. Contemplate that all the happiness, wealth, fame, etc. of this life's activities are meaningless, and moreover, even if one obtains the wealth of Brahma, Indra, Chakravartin, etc., one feels it is meaningless, which is remembering the meaning; for example, contemplate that no matter how much happiness and suffering one experiences during a single sleep, everything is meaningless when one wakes up, which is remembering the example; finally, mix the example and the meaning and meditate. The fifth is to contemplate that the fruit of supreme liberation is never reversible, and thus train the mind. There are also three kinds of liberation: small liberation of the Hearers, medium liberation of the Solitary Realizers, and especially when one obtains the fruit of supreme liberation, perfect enlightenment, one abandons sins, obscurations, and habitual tendencies, and for one's own benefit, one's abandonment and realization reach the ultimate, and one attains the peaceful and supreme Dharmakaya; for the benefit of others, relying on the two Rupakayas, one constantly, pervasively, and spontaneously accomplishes the benefit of those to be tamed, and its abandonment and realization are never reversible, therefore, thinking about when one will obtain such a fruit and

Remembering the meaning. For example, just as a person liberated from smallpox is no longer tormented by smallpox, think in this way and remember the analogy. Mix the analogy and the meaning and practice. Sixth, train the mind by thinking about the instructions of the holy guru. The indispensable cause for obtaining such liberation is the guru's instructions. Among them, first, one must be skilled in examining the guru. Do not follow the words of others, and rely on a guru who has realization, has experience, and possesses the qualities of being blessed by the three lineages. In the middle, be skilled in relying on the guru, pleasing the guru with excellent offerings, pleasing the guru with service in the middle, and pleasing the guru with material things in the lower. Do not do anything that displeases the guru even for a moment. Finally, be skilled in learning the guru's intentions and actions, and obtain the nectar of instructions from the guru who has blessings. As with the instructions obtained, through exhausting experience, all the qualities of the guru's abandonment and realization appear as if imprinted on one's own mindstream, and all the qualities of one's own mindstream increase like summer sprouts, thinking of becoming the guru's successor and remembering the meaning. For example, think of it as a staircase to climb a tall building and remember the analogy. Again, mix the analogy and the meaning and practice. Seventh, train the mind by relying on non-conceptual samadhi, there are three types: bliss-emptiness non-conceptual, clarity-emptiness non-conceptual, and dharmata non-conceptual. The first is: contemplate the body as externally clear and internally clear, as the nature of light, and believe that body and mind are completely integrated into bliss, this is single-pointed samadhi with bliss as the means. Second, clarity-emptiness non-conceptual: place one's body in a comfortable vajra posture. Cover the knees with both hands. Look ahead with eyes half-open. Do not block the appearance of the six external consciousnesses. The inner mind, in a state of being free from grasping, place all thoughts in a non-conceptual state in a way that they arise naturally and are completely cut off, this is single-pointed samadhi with clarity as the means. Third, dharmata non-conceptual: place the dharmata of the mind, the unaltered reality, in a state of being free from the thoughts of the three times, past, present, and future, this is single-pointed samadhi. It is difficult to practice either the generation stage or the completion stage, whichever is suitable.
