In the east, (Tibetan: ཁཾ, Devanagari: खं, Romanized Sanskrit: khaṃ, Literal meaning: space seed syllable) produces water; in the south, (Tibetan: རཾ, Devanagari: रं, Romanized Sanskrit: raṃ, Literal meaning: fire seed syllable) produces fire; in the west, (Tibetan: ལཾ, Devanagari: लं, Romanized Sanskrit: laṃ, Literal meaning: earth seed syllable) produces earth; in the north, (Tibetan: ཡཾ, Devanagari: यं, Romanized Sanskrit: yaṃ, Literal meaning: wind seed syllable) produces wind; and in the center, (Tibetan: ཨེ, Devanagari: ऐ, Romanized Sanskrit: ai, Literal meaning: emptiness seed syllable) produces above the sky. Place the effigy there. Place an owl feather on the head. Surround it with arrows, slings, and the effigy. Recite the life-redeeming text once. After that, recite the praise. HUNG! All the deities who generate the elements, listen to me and consider me. When the elements are disturbed from the outside, may this ritual harmonize them. Deceive the person who is targeted. May all diseases, evil spirits, habitual tendencies, sins, and obscurations be purified right now. Please avert the causes of death. Listen to the words of the precious victorious ones. To all the gods and demons of existence who have power over the five elements, offer the ransom of life and the sacrificial cake. Release what is held and untie what is bound. May karmic debts and loans be transformed into attendants. May rebirth be as a human. This is the ransom of the five elements. Take it, take it, all you lords of the ransom. All you lords of the year, lords of life, and those who cling. Remember, grasp, think, and touch. Please release, pacify, and liberate. Avert death within three years. Then cast it into the river. If done once a year, it will surely avert the causes of untimely death. There is nothing deeper than this.
