We sentient beings are bound by the power of ignorance, Our meaningless, deluded actions have no end. From beginningless lifetimes until now, We are enveloped in the black darkness of delusion. We have destroyed ourselves with the harsh weapons of hatred, The mind of pride and competition has fallen into a pit of fire, We drink the boiling poisonous ocean of desire without satisfaction, The wheel of jealousy and distraction constantly turns. The fruits of our own actions ripen upon ourselves, We experience the suffering of gods, long life and change, We are carried away by the four rivers of birth, old age, sickness, and death, We are lost in the battlefields of Asura conflict, We sink into the mud of animalistic behavior, foolish and mute, We endlessly suffer the hunger and thirst of pretas, We cannot bear the suffering of hot and cold hells. Alas, alas! Miserable beings of bad karma in samsara! Have the Three Jewels and Three Roots not seen us with their eyes? Do they not extend their long hands of compassion? Do they not light the lamp of clear wisdom? Do they not send down the cool stream of compassion? Do they not mount the supreme, unsurpassed steed? Can we not be born in the pure land of the Victorious Ones? Alas, alas! Miserable beings of bad karma in samsara! Please do not diminish your compassion, exert your power and strength! We sentient beings reap what we sow, No one can change the ripened karma. Regretting our actions is of no use, What to do? We experience such helpless suffering. We cry out pitifully, calling upon the ocean of Victorious Ones, If we are not pulled from the mud of bad karma and samsara, Will the compassion of the Victorious Ones diminish? Have we not become the object of your compassion? Having liberated us from the cliff of bad karma and samsara, Having washed away the stains of black ripening.
