Do not teach the Dharma, do not move the dwelling, do not shake the cushion. Do not wash the face and hands. Do not cut hair and beard. Take attainment and siddhi. Make confession. Give thanks. Dedicate the root of virtue. Thus it is said. From the Red Instructions of the Guru's Intentions Collected: Until accomplishment is achieved, do not wear the clothes of others; it causes defilement; practice becomes distracted and lost. If the food is too good, one comes under the power of afflictions; if it is bad, physical strength diminishes and one cannot practice austerities, so balance good and bad and be moderate. Do not eat food from the hands of those who have broken vows, widows, outcasts, thieves, those who have lost their vows, or those who are defiled, or those who are possessed by demons. If you eat it, your practice will be delayed and you will not reach the end, and obstacles will arise. Do not move the sleeping mat. Until the measure of practice and vows is reached, if you move the mat or bed, the sign of warmth will disappear and sudden fright will occur. If you protect others, your power will diminish, so do not protect others or perform exorcisms. Do not wear dirty clothes or wash the body; the siddhis will disappear and leave. If you cut hair, nails, and beard, the power of the mantra will diminish, so do not cut them. Do not teach the Dharma from the retreat room; the signs of practice will not arise. Do not make long-term vows at one time, as demons will enter, so prolong and do it. If you mix speech with others, you will not be considered a mantra practitioner, so cut off speech. If you recite secret mantras and wrathful Vajra recitations loudly, the power will diminish and subtle non-humans will be frightened and faint, so recite them quietly and clearly. If you lie on your back and draw the mala over your chest and recite, you are oppressing yourself. In general, if the body remains upright, the channels remain upright, and thus the wind flows upright. Because wind and mind are united, if the wind flows upright, there is a need for the object to which the mind is directed and for the samadhi to be workable. Bodily posture, such as the seven-point posture of meditation, is extremely important to be very careful. Do not blow. Do not throw out saliva and mucus except during the time of killing, repelling, subduing, and employing. It will cause obstacles to the mantra and become a suppression of speech, so do not throw saliva and mucus on the road. Do not sleep during the day. There are many kinds of faults in this, so by all means, in every way, abandon it. Until accomplishment is achieved, actions to be abandoned

Therefore, do not engage in activities that cause extreme distraction and dullness of body, speech, and mind. For any practice, exert effort until completion. Whatever good or bad signs of accomplishment or miraculous phenomena may arise, do not engage in judgment of acceptance or rejection based on liking or disliking. Instead, settle the yogi's mind in its natural state and continue the practice steadily. When austerities and practice are completed, offer thanksgiving offerings in order. Even after breaking retreat, maintain the after-effects of the retreat for a few days and do not wander in villages or other places. In your own dwelling, do not converse with others for three days. Do not allow those who do not share the same vows to see the practice materials. Do not show the practice materials to others. Do not give the substances of accomplishment to others; enjoy them yourself. From the beginning of the practice until its completion, do not abruptly break the retreat no matter what happens. Recognize that it is a demon creating obstacles and do not allow it to succeed. In general, a yogi who is diligent in recitation and practice should not act as they please. Do not eat any food that is obtained indiscriminately. Do not wear soiled clothes or shrouds, or other impure items. Do not lie down carelessly. Do not discard impure substances where people can see them or on the road. Do not engage in ascetic practices at inappropriate times, and so on. In short, it is important to be very careful in all aspects of conduct. In general, if you want to attain happiness, begin with suffering such as austerities, and then divide the day and night into segments. If you compress the practice tightly, you will attain lasting happiness, so keep this in mind. Thus it is said. Furthermore, in that same text, it is said: When the undiminished instructions are practiced in the continuum, it is very important to continuously observe silence. Among all distractions, the greatest is excessive talking; meaningless chatter is an obstacle to virtue. If you observe silence, it is the most supreme of retreats; even if the body is in the marketplace, you will not feel hunger. If you can combine austerity and silence, that is excellent. Even if you cannot do that completely, you must observe silence during the intervals between sessions of any virtuous practice. Whatever virtuous practice you do, observe silence and do not allow it to be interrupted by other words. In this way, the speech will generate power and you will quickly attain accomplishment. In short, there is no need for excessive talking that is not related to the practice of Dharma. Having observed silence, engage in activities such as recitation, and through the door of speech, accomplish the enlightenment of
