Think! Hūṃ! Through the wisdom of the powerful mantra, With the great force of the radiant vajra, Destroy the sins, downfalls, and habitual tendencies of the deceased, May the causes and effects of suffering be purified! Recite the practice mantra, and below the six-syllable mantra, attach the purification places of the six realms separately. Recite the Wheel of Rebirth Emptiness-Penetrating Dhāraṇī. Then, guide the beings of the six realms. The first is: Place the nameplate at the place of hell. Offer the ransom torma, purify with raṃ yaṃ khaṃ. Oṃ āḥ hūṃ three times. Visualize the torma as a great treasure of desired objects, and dedicate it: Hūṃ! This enjoyment of torma arising from the all-pervading wish, Is dedicated to purify the karmic debts accumulated by the deceased from beginningless saṃsāra, May they be satisfied with the supreme, undefiled great bliss! Sarva naraka gate bhyaḥ balinta khā hi khā hi (सर्व नरक गते भ्यः बलिन्त खा हि खा हि, All beings gone to hell, eat, eat!) Scatter white mustard seeds as a symbol of burning with the fire of wisdom, Hūṃ! The wisdom firelight arising from the heart essence of the teacher, the Great Sage, the King of Dharma, Completely burns and purifies the karmic afflictions and sinful obscurations that cause the deceased to be born in hell! Sarva naraka gati bhasmiṃ kuru svāhā (सर्व नरक गति भस्मिं कुरु स्वाहा, Turn all hellish karma to ashes, accomplish!) Visualize scattering with the wind of dharmatā, Hūṃ! From the dharmatā, empty and clear, without beginning or end, The power of mirror-like wisdom is drawn forth, In the nature of the great expanse of non-duality, May all conceptual obscurations and habitual tendencies be purified! At the end of the practice mantra and the Emptiness-Penetrating Dhāraṇī, recite Oṃ daha daha sarva naraka gate hetuṃ hūṃ phaṭ (ओम् दह दह सर्व नरक गते हेतुं हुं फट्, Oṃ, burn, burn, all hells, cause, Hūṃ, phaṭ!) and scatter sand, Visualize washing with the water of bodhicitta, Hūṃ! In the auspicious, radiant vase of the realm of reality, Filled with the nectar of wisdom, the nature of patience, By bathing the son of the deceased lineage, May the causes and effects of afflictions and hatred be purified! Recite the practice mantra and the dhāraṇī mantra and bathe. Having thus purified the obscurations, to bestow the share of wisdom, perform the empowerment: Visualize the hellish sage arising from the soles of the feet of the main deity in front of you, dissolving into the deceased, and bestow the empowerment with a body tsa-tsa, Hūṃ! The Great Sage, the King of Dharma, who tames beings, By empowering the son of the deceased lineage, May they be liberated from the suffering of hot and cold hells, May the mirror-like wisdom be manifested! Oṃ muni hūṃ kāya abhiṣiñca (ओम् मुनि हुं काय अभिषिञ्च, Oṃ, sage, Hūṃ, body, empower!)

Tsa Mi! Lead the object of focus to the realm of the pretas. With the vajra, cut off the path of return. Hūṃ! Below this place is the realm of the suffering hells. Knowing it to be like a burning pit of fire, with intense renunciation, approach the mandala. May you attain the supreme wisdom of non-retrogression! Oṃ Sarva Naraka Gati Hūṃ Ā Ā! Thus, speak. Secondly, cleanse, purify, and bless the ransom torma as before, and dedicate it: Hūṃ! This enjoyment of the torma that pervades the sky and arises from desire, is dedicated to purify the debts and karmic debts of the pretas accumulated by the deceased from beginningless time. May you be satisfied with the supreme, uncontaminated great bliss! Sarva Preta Gati Bhyaḥ Baliṃta Khāhi Khāhi! As a symbol of burning with the fire of wisdom, scatter white mustard seeds. Hūṃ! From the heart of the teacher, the great capable wrathful deity, the light of the wisdom fire that arises from the life force, burn and purify the karmic afflictions of the deceased's rebirth as a preta, and the remaining defilements and habitual tendencies without remainder! Sarva Preta Gati Bhasmiṃ Kuru Svāhā! Contemplate scattering with the wind of dharmatā. Hūṃ! From the dharmatā, empty and clear, free from beginning and end, by exerting the power of the wisdom of individual discrimination, in the very nature of the great expanse of non-duality, may all conceptual obscurations and habitual tendencies be purified! At the end of the recitation, practice mantra, and purifying dhāraṇī: Oṃ Paca Paca Sarva Preta Gati Hetuṃ Hūṃ Phaṭ! Recite thus and strike with sand. Contemplate washing with the water of bodhicitta. Hūṃ! In the auspicious, radiant vase of the sphere, filled with the nectar of wisdom, the nature of generosity, by bathing the son of the deceased lineage, may the causes and effects of afflictive miserliness be purified! Recite the practice mantra and the dhāraṇī mantra and bathe. Having thus purified the obscurations, in order to establish a share of wisdom, perform the empowerment: Visualize the principal deity in front of you emanating the capable one of the pretas from the secret place, dissolving into the deceased, and empower with the body mandala. Hūṃ! The great capable wrathful deity who tames beings, by empowering the son of the deceased lineage, may you be liberated from the suffering of hunger and thirst of the pretas, and may the wisdom of individual discrimination be manifested! Oṃ Muni Breṃ Kāya Abhiṣiñcāmi! Lead the object of focus to the animal realm. With the vajra, cut off the path of return.
