Take refuge in the deities of samsara and nirvana! Strive towards the city of great liberation! Having been instructed thus, contemplate generating a mind of one-pointed reverence! At the beginning of the bath, offer a bath to the deities: Take a small amount of water from the vase and pour it into a bowl. With this, bathe the mandala, reciting mantras such as the birth of the Tathagata. To the supreme body, speech, and mind of the Buddhas, although they are without the stain of afflictions, in order to purify the obscurations of sentient beings' three doors, I offer a bath with pure water. Om Sarva Tathagata Abhisheka Te Samaya Shriye Hum (Tibetan: ཨོཾ་སརྦ་ཏ་ཐཱ་ག་ཏ་ཨ་བྷི་ཥེ་ཀ་ཏེ་ས་མ་ཡ་ཤྲི་ཡེ་ཧཱུྃ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: ॐ सर्व तथागत अभिषेके ते समय श्रीये हूँ, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ sarva tathāgata abhiṣeke te samaya śrīye hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Om, all Tathagatas, empowerment, to you, samaya, auspicious, Hum). For wiping the body: Clothes that are incomparable to those bodies, wipe the body with cleanliness and fragrance. Om Hum Tram Hrih Ah Sarva Tathagata Kaya Vishodhani Svaha (Tibetan: ཨོཾ་ཧཱུྃ་ཏྲཱཾ་ཧྲཱིཿཨཱཿ སརྦ་ཏ་ཐཱ་ག་ཏ་ཀཱ་ཡ་བི་ཤོ་དྷ་ནི་སྭཱ་ཧཱཿ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ॐ हूँ त्राम् ह्रीः आः सर्व तथागत काय विशोधानि स्वाहा, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ hūṃ trāṃ hrīḥ āḥ sarva tathāgata kāya viśodhani svāhā, Literal Chinese meaning: Om, Hum, Tram, Hrih, Ah, all Tathagatas, body, purification, Svaha). Pour the bathwater back into the vase and bathe the name plaque: Om! In the auspicious and virtuous vase, filled with the nectar of the wisdom body, having bathed you, the deceased, may the sins and obscurations of the body be purified! Hum! In the auspicious and virtuous vase, filled with the nectar of the luminous mind, having bathed you, the deceased, may the sins and obscurations of mind be purified! Like the previous mantra: Om Sarva Tathagata Citta Abhisheka Te Samaya Shriye Hum (Tibetan: ཨོཾ་སརྦ་ཏ་ཐཱ་ག་ཏ་ཙིཏྟ་ཨ་བྷི་ཥེ་ཀ་ཏེ་ས་མ་ཡ་ཤྲཱི་ཡེ་ཧཱུྃ༔, Sanskrit Devanagari: ॐ सर्व तथागत चित्त अभिषेके ते समय श्रीये हूँ, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ sarva tathāgata citta abhiṣeke te samaya śrīye hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Om, all Tathagatas, mind, empowerment, to you, samaya, auspicious, Hum). Thus bathe. Purifying the poisons of the four elements: Contemplate that the poisons of the four elements of the deceased dissolve into the nature of the four elements, and with kusha grass, perform the act of bathing the bathing substances. Hum! Relying on the contributing causes of the four elements, the three poisons arising from the cause of afflictions, may all the causes and effects of delusion, by the truth of the Three Jewels and the blessings of the mandala deities, dissolve into the nature of the four elements. May the deceased be free from afflictions and suffering, and may unpolluted bliss increase! Om Sarva Tathagata Adhisthana Adhisthite Sarva Papam Apanaya Svaha (Tibetan: ཨོཾ་སརྦ་ཏ་ཐཱ་ག་ཏ་ཨ་དྷིཥྛཱ་ན་ཨ་དྷིཥྛི་ཏེ་སརྦ་པཱ་པཾ་ཨ་པ་ནཱ་ཡ་སྭཱ་ཧཱ༔, Sanskrit Devanagari: ॐ सर्व तथागत अधिष्ठान अधिष्ठिते सर्व पापं अपनाय स्वाहा, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ sarva tathāgata adhiṣṭhāna adhiṣṭhite sarva pāpaṃ apanāya svāhā, Literal Chinese meaning: Om, all Tathagatas, blessing, blessed, all sins, remove, Svaha). By sprinkling with sand that has been recited with mantras, may sins and downfalls be purified by the wind of dharmata.
