Like the moon in water, appearance and emptiness have no before or after. Therefore, appearance is self-appearance, emptiness is self-emptiness, and the nature of mind, emptiness, is inseparable. When one realizes great bliss and clarity without mixture, like a rainbow, appearance is clear and unobstructed, and awareness is empty and without attachment. Appearance is not abandoned but self-liberated, non-conceptual thought and characteristics are self-liberated, and the meaning of Dharma-nature is understood. If one masters this uninterrupted instruction, then during the day, engaging in activities becomes meditation, which is the instruction of allowing appearance to be free. When going to sleep at night, the five senses should not be intentionally blocked or gathered. The five gates are clear and without attachment, and one should rest in the self-arising of wisdom. At the time of drowsiness, in the rootless emptiness of the Alaya consciousness, awareness should be clear and without attachment. Falling asleep in this state will prevent bad karmic dreams from arising. During sleep, in the dream state, awareness will appear clearly, distinctly, and without attachment. Resting in the meaning of self-arising is the instruction of gathering the sensory faculties at night. At midnight, like a lamp inside a vase that shines without scattering outward, awareness is clear and without attachment within, and the essence remains clear, bright, and unmoving. This is the instruction of bringing awareness into the vase at midnight. At dawn, when waking up, clarify the above-mentioned clarity without attachment, and the five gates are clear and unobstructed, without clinging. Like a mirror cleansed of dirt, in which images appear clearly, the meaning of Dharma-nature, which is originally clear, becomes even clearer. Meditating on the inseparability of clarity and emptiness is the instruction of the self-arising of wisdom at dawn. As it is said, this is crucial for the practice of Trekchö, so one should practice accordingly. Furthermore, during meditation, blocking the wandering of discursive thoughts does not suppress them, nor does one chase after them. In a state of natural abiding, with undistracted mindfulness, whatever thoughts arise, whether subtle, coarse, or large, one should recognize them and look at their essence. Therefore, Guru Padmasambhava said, "Do not welcome the past, do not follow the future, do not fabricate with the mind. By leaving thoughts in their own place, they are liberated into the Dharmakaya." Also, in the Tang Dynasty writings, in the instructions to the naturally born queen, it is said, "Do not tighten the body and mind, relax and rest. In the stillness of the fundamental emptiness, chase after discursive thoughts, circling in emptiness. In experience, this arises without effort. Do not cling to meditation, relax again and again. Whatever good or bad thoughts arise, stare at them." And, the original purity...

From the Essential Collection of Quintessence Instructions, Key Instructions on the Path: This awareness, Bodhicitta, Without being tainted by deluded thoughts, By leaving it in its own clear, fresh state, Without engaging in grasping at objects, No matter what arises, there is no grasping, No thought of grasping at a self arises, Whatever arises, without grasping, That is the purification of perceived objects, Whatever of the five poisons arises in the mind, Whatever is thought, without grasping with the mind, The movement is liberated in its own place, By practicing in this way, In the stainless, self-aware awareness, Clear and vivid, spontaneously arising, When experiencing this in the mindstream, A blissful, clear, non-conceptual experience arises, Untainted by grasping thoughts, It does not arise from elsewhere, One's own face is known by oneself, It is the ultimate intention of the Buddhas. As it is said, this is written because it is concise and easy to understand. Furthermore, at this time, although there are many general Sutras and Tantras and the tenets of our own tradition, I have not written them down for fear of too many words, but I think that this much is enough to understand the meaning. Nowadays, some who claim to have received instructions abandon the essence of the meaning and mainly focus on meditating on the stages of visualization in a sequential manner, so that the practice does not fit with their own mindstream, and it is as if the Dharma and the individual are separate. Without tasting the essence of the fundamental nature, the mind remains in an ordinary state, and the subtle and gross movements are not eradicated. They mistakenly believe that they are in a vast ocean of lower movements, and they mistakenly believe that conceptual thoughts should be abandoned, and they try to forcefully stop them, and so on. Seeing that they fall under the power of mistakes, Therefore, the main thing is that the method of settling the mind alone is very important. First, without mistaking the meaning pointed out by the Lama, practice it, and until Samatha and Vipassana become inseparable, rely on the Lama's words to dispel obstacles and enhance practice according to experience. At this time, the "Northern Treasure Great Perfection Dispelling Obstacles Jewel Treasury" appears, so please practice it according to the capacity of your mindstream. Thus, also in the "Lamp of the Precious Tigle" it says: This is a clear record of the essential points of the text, The protector of the wheel, the great treasure revealer Dharma King, Because of the command of Unchanging Vajra, The old Bhikshu Padma Trinley, Mainly based on the meaning of the text, with the Lama's oral instructions, Well adorned, without making self-made additions or deletions, I ask the knowledgeable ones to examine this book carefully. May this virtue lead to the excellent path in all lifetimes, Early translation ripening liberation
