As preliminaries, there are five: refuge, bodhicitta, accumulation of merit, purification of obscurations, and guru yoga. First, taking refuge is also twofold: cause and effect. First, the refuge of cause has eight aspects: the object of refuge, the master by whom one takes refuge, how to take refuge, view, meditation, conduct, empowerment, and samaya. First, the object of refuge is: in front of oneself, visualize a clear and vast ocean of milk, stainless, in the center of which is a lotus stem with three levels, the bottom one with a thousand white petals, the middle one with a thousand red petals, and the top one with a thousand blue petals, on top of which, in the center of the bindu of sun, moon, and five lights, is Kuntuzangpo (藏文:ཀུན་ཏུ་བཟང་པོ།,梵文天城体:समन्तभद्र,梵文罗马拟音:Samantabhadra,汉语字面意思:普贤), with a blue body, in the posture of equipoise, holding a golden five-pronged vajra upright. Yum Kuntuzangmo (藏文:ཀུན་ཏུ་བཟང་མོ།,梵文天城体:समन्तभद्री,梵文罗马拟音:Samantabhadrī,汉语字面意思:普贤佛母) is blue, embracing him while holding a curved knife and skull cup. To his east is Vairochana, to the south is Ratnasambhava, to the west is Amitabha, and to the north is Amoghasiddhi. The fathers and mothers, the Dharmakaya Buddhas, reside in the midst of a realm of light, which is the great Ogmin or the Sambhogakaya pure land of self-appearance. On the middle lotus seat, in the center of the bindu of lotus, sun, and five lights, is Chenrezig (藏文:སྤྱན་རས་གཟིགས།,梵文天城体:अवलोकितेश्वर,梵文罗马拟音:Avalokiteśvara,汉语字面意思:观世音), with a red body, one face, and four arms, the first two with palms joined at the heart, holding a vase filled with immortal nectar, the lower right holding a lotus rosary, and the lower left holding a white lotus, holding the stem with the thumb and forefinger, with the flower blooming near the ear. Around him, the Sambhogakaya Buddhas reside like a dense cloud. This is the Sambhogakaya pure land of other-appearance, the small Ogmin. On the lower lotus seat, in the center of the bindu of sun, moon, and five lights, is Guru Padmasambhava, with the three marks on his body. Wearing a lotus hat on his head, his two hands in the posture of equipoise, holding a skull cup filled with nectar, his secret support, the khatvanga, tucked under his arm. Around him are the eight manifestations, the eight vidyadharas of India, the eight great siddhas of Tibet, and other Nirmanakaya deities, visualized as the Nirmanakaya pure land. And visualize that all of them are residing in the midst of a shimmering, radiant, and luminous realm of light, in a joyful manner, and generate faith. The master by whom one takes refuge is: in front of them

In front of oneself. On the right is the father, on the left is the mother, in front are enemies and friends, and behind are the sentient beings of the six realms. I, as the guide, recite in one voice. The way to take refuge is: Namo! The body of the assembled Guru Sugatas, the nature of the Three Jewels, I and the sentient beings of the six realms, take refuge until enlightenment. Similarly, the speech of the assembled Guru Sugatas, the mind of the assembled Guru Sugatas, etc., as it says in the scriptures, take refuge hundreds of thousands of times. The empowerment of taking refuge is: From the Om (Tibetan: ཨོཾ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ओ, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ, Chinese literal meaning: Om) on the crown of the head of the refuge objects, immeasurable white light radiates, dissolving into the crown of the head of oneself and all other sentient beings, eliminating physical obscurations, and the blessing of the body enters the body. From the Ah (Tibetan: ཨཱཿ, Sanskrit Devanagari: आः, Sanskrit Romanization: āḥ, Chinese literal meaning: Ah) in the throat, immeasurable red light radiates, dissolving into the throat, eliminating speech obscurations, and the blessing of speech enters the speech. From the Hum (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: Hum) in the heart, blue light radiates, dissolving into the heart, eliminating mental obscurations, and the blessing of the mind enters the mind. The body, speech, and mind of the refuge objects merge with oneself without separation. In that state, in reality, all that is to be saved and all that saves do not go beyond the nature of self-awareness, this is the view. Not being distracted in that state is meditation. Transforming whatever appears into the path is action. The vows are: Outwardly, having taken refuge in the Three Jewels, do not associate with non-Buddhist friends, and do not prostrate to worldly deities. Inwardly, having taken refuge in the three, Guru, Yidam, and Dakini, do not interrupt mantras and mudras, etc. Secretly, having taken refuge in the three, Dharma, Sambhoga, and Nirmana Kayas, observe the meaning of the generation and completion stages, and meditate on emptiness. Outwardly, having taken refuge, accept the precepts of the Shravakas. Inwardly, having taken refuge, accept the precepts of the Bodhisattvas. Secretly, having taken refuge, accept the precepts of the inner tantras such as Kriya Yoga, this is the vow. After that, visualize the refuge objects as emptiness. Visualize the sentient beings of the six realms as if birds flying out of their nests, going with a clamor to the pure realm of the Dakinis. In that state, abide in the great primordial purity, free from elaboration, this is the order of taking refuge. Second is generating Bodhicitta: The object of generating Bodhicitta is to visualize clearly the above-mentioned refuge objects. In front of them, with oneself as the main one, on the right is the father, on the left is the mother, in front is
