I become like an unwavering lamp, unmoved by the wind. When this happens, one can truly focus on the reality of things, thereby attaining the first of the ten Bhumis (grounds). One also enters the Path of Seeing among the five paths. After completing the first Bhumi and the Path of Seeing, immediately from the second Bhumi, the Immaculate, one purifies through the ten and eighteen purifications, etc., as explained in the Ornament for Clear Realization, just as gradually removing impurities from gold makes it pure. The portions of the two obscurations accumulated in the mind-stream are also completely transformed, and one attains unobstructed wisdom, thereby attaining the Buddha-ground, which is the basis of all qualities, and also achieves the ultimate goal of fulfilling the needs of oneself and others. The detailed explanation is finished. Second, summarizing the meaning: Attaining temporary and ultimate qualities depends on the Madhyamaka (Middle Way) path as explained in detail above. Therefore, those who wish to attain perfect Buddhahood for the benefit of others should strive for the Madhyamaka path that unites skillful means and wisdom. Fourth, dedicating the merit of teaching: As shown above, by teaching the Madhyamaka path that unites skillful means and wisdom, may all beings attain the Madhyamaka path. By what means? By the merit of my teaching the Madhyamaka path. Fifth, advising to engage in teaching: In order to keep those virtuous people who are far from the defilements of jealousy, etc., in a fair state of mind, and who, like an ocean full of water, are never satisfied with the merits of extensive learning, able to distinguish between good and evil, and adopt the wonderful words spoken by the wise, just as the king of swans abandons the water mixed in milk and joyfully takes the milk. Therefore, for those who are skilled in discernment, they should abandon malice, which is like poison, that has disturbed the eye of the mind with the thorn of prejudice, and if they see good words, even if they come from the mouth of a child, they should adopt them all. Acarya (Sanskrit: Ācārya, teacher) Kamalashila concludes here. The Indian Khenpo (Sanskrit: Khenpo, preceptor) Prajñāvarma, i.e., Armor of Wisdom, and the revising translator, the Pandit (Sanskrit: Pandita, scholar) Yeshe. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Translated, proofread, and finalized by སྡེ་ (De) and others. May the merit of this effort be as vast as the sky and as numerous as the dust particles in boundless realms. May I and all sentient beings, including parents of the past, present, and future, attain the state of omniscience. Teaching is the light of speech, the friend of the lotus of wisdom; debate is the lightning of correct reasoning, radiating brightly; writing is beautiful, flawless discourse, captivating the minds of the wise; it is the best among orators, the authority of true rational speech. Possessing fearless renunciation and wisdom, it is the speaker with five faces; pure as a lotus, its words are the immortal drum of Dharma; in the three realms, it proclaims the path to liberation; for fortunate beings, it spreads a feast of nectar of excellent discourse. With scriptures and logic, it clearly shows the path to omniscience; in the correct way, it discerns its meaning through scriptures and reason; this is the dark cloud of a hundred sciences, accompanied by the thunder of liberation; like beautiful water lilies blooming in a clear lake; like the king of stars appearing in a cloudless sky. Seeing this excellent discourse, the smiles of the wise will become brighter. Just as a strong elephant overpowers other elephants with its strength, this excellent discourse also overwhelms other false statements. The treatises written by others, like a series of dark illusions, are completely confused about the understanding of the path, with disordered sequences, burdened by intoxicating words, deceiving others like poison, should be avoided. Creating an unprecedented correct chariot path, the sun of speech has risen from today. May the virtuous ones who are free from jealousy, the wise beings, rejoice and dance like peacocks seeing clouds. Possessing dharani and samadhi, endowed with supreme noble qualities, transcending the ocean of samsara, possessing a flourishing retinue. May all the great Arhats spread this treasure of excellent discourse, like sunlight, in all directions. May wisdom be as boundless as the sky, and may the white light of immeasurable compassion spread to all beings, quickly attaining the state of omniscience. Therefore, in order to eliminate the misconceptions of Hwashang Mahayana and his followers, at the request of the lord of Sa, King Trisong Detsen, the great scholar Kamalashila, who was able to destroy all opponents in Jambudvipa, wrote the 'Extensive Treatise on the Stages of Meditation'.
