Also, by abandoning the three attachments to virtuous actions and becoming accustomed to solitary places and the like, strength arises from that, and the realization of one taste dawns. How does it come about? One realizes that appearance and mind are not two, understands that object and subject are not two, and knows that appearance and emptiness are non-dual, thus the realization of union is born, it is said. Now, what is the difference between freedom from elaboration and one taste? If one thinks, at the time of freedom from elaboration, although one realizes that the mind is empty, one does not realize that appearance is empty. Although one understands a little about cause and effect, one does not understand all of cause and effect. Although one abandons coarse afflictions, a little manifestation still arises. Although one gains control over birth, one does not gain control over death. At the time of one taste, one realizes that appearance and mind are not two. Afflictions do not arise manifestly. Even if they arise, virtuous actions dawn. Because this is the nature of the mind, it appears as many samsara and nirvana, and one understands all cause and effect. One gains control over both birth and death. At the time of one taste, because one realizes equality, things are important. Because one realizes union, there will be superior and intermediate, and in that state of realization, the body becomes like light or a rainbow. The body does not remain behind, because there is no death, one gains control over both birth and death, like King Indrabodhi or a great Brahmin, it is said. Having gone into union in that way, one is liberated from the bondage of the body, and is superior and intermediate, it is said. That one taste is also based on and accustomed to the practice of non-elaboration or extreme non-elaboration, and the realization of no meditation dawns. The mind is empty and completely pure from the beginning, and below one taste, it is because the defilements of afflictions and thoughts, such as sudden conditions, have been purified. It manifests as the Buddha of the stainless dharmakaya, free from the object of meditation and the meditator, and with two purities without samadhi and post-samadhi, like putting water into water or butter into butter. One becomes a Buddha in the dharmakaya, thus accomplishing the meaning of self-nature, it is said. Among the three excellences, this is the greatest excellence. Because appearance is completely cut off, one is liberated from the bondage of appearance, it is said. Now, what is the difference between one taste and no meditation? If one thinks, at the time of one taste, there is a subtle experience. No meditation completely abandons that subtle experience from the root, and there is no defilement. All appearances subside in the state of non-duality. It is only samadhi, like an elephant.

He said that even when abiding, it is Samadhi; even when rising, it is abiding. What is meant by action is also this. Having completely abandoned the seeds of samsara along with their habitual tendencies, possessing the qualities of perfect abandonment and the qualities of perfect wisdom, one becomes enlightened with the three kayas and five wisdoms. Just as a clear image appears in a mirror that has been cleansed of dirt, one becomes enlightened in the Dharmakaya, which possesses two purities. This is the wisdom of knowing things as they are. Thus, while abiding in the state of the Dharmakaya that possesses two purities, the wisdom of knowing without confusion all the realms of sentient beings, their habitual tendencies, all their thoughts, and all causes and effects, is the wisdom of knowing all that exists. Furthermore, relying on the combination of three conditions: the self-cause of realizing the Dharmakaya for one's own benefit, the other-cause of disciples turning upwards, and the interdependence of having previously familiarized oneself with skillful means, one appears as the Sambhogakaya Buddha to the bodhisattvas abiding on the bhumis and benefits beings. To those below the accumulation path, one appears in various forms of Nirmanakaya, both supreme and inferior. Until samsara is emptied, one constantly, pervasively, extensively, and continuously benefits sentient beings. This is the way of abiding in Nirvana. The Dharma Lord said, "Free from faults, perfectly endowed with qualities, the three kayas of the Buddha are wondrous." What is spoken of refers to such a state. Furthermore, the suchness of sentient beings is not the mother who gives birth to the Buddhas and their sons. Not understanding this is ignorance. From ignorance, three appearances arise. From these appearances, seven conceptualizations arise from ignorance, thirty-two conceptualizations arise from proliferation, and forty conceptualizations arise from attachment. Relying on the eighty natures, the division of self and other arises. There, with attachment and aversion, one accumulates the karma of body, speech, and mind, and from the peak of existence to the Avici hell, one wanders in samsara in the manner of the twelve links of dependent origination. This is what needs to be understood. As it is said in the Pramanavarttika, "From the division of self and other come clinging and hatred. From these two and their connection, all faults arise." This is the way it is said. This is the way of abiding in samsara. Simply understanding Mahamudra.
