The Instructions on the Three Key Points of Jey. The Instructions on the Three Key Points of Jey. Spontaneously accomplished and uncompounded, without the marks of elaboration, the Dharmakaya possessing two purities, I prostrate to the feet of the precious Lama. From his mouth, well-spoken, this nectar of essential instructions, for the sake of urging by respectful disciples, with love, the instructions are written as spoken. Only son, listen attentively with respect, this difficult-to-find leisure and endowment obtained, is like impermanent dew on the tip of grass. Therefore, abandon the desires of this life, the suffering of the six realms of samsara, think of it as a pit of fire, the noble Dharma that liberates from it, practice the meaning of reality. Even if liberated from the continuum of samsara, if you abandon loving mothers, it is the inferior enlightenment of Hearers and Solitary Realizers, cultivate the inseparable three minds, thus he said. If you accomplish great things in this life, rely on the qualified precious Lama, as he says, act according to his instructions, generate faith and devotion as the source of accomplishments arises. Accomplishing the benefit of self and others, the perfect Buddha, the essential instructions for accomplishing it are, the supreme of the path of union, the instructions on the three key points should be practiced thus, he said. This is the path of all Buddhas, after cutting the ties of this life, with the diligence of inseparable practice, place it in your heart, all you individuals. From the mouth of the protector of the three realms, the precious Lama, our teacher, the Great Sage Shakyamuni Buddha, after attaining perfect enlightenment, to counteract the eighty-four thousand afflictions of sentient beings, spoke the eighty-four thousand aggregates of Dharma. Although there are said to be inconceivable ways to practice these Dharmas, in summary, there are two: the Pandit cutting off superimpositions from the outside, and the Kusali cutting off superimpositions from the inside. The so-called Pandit cutting off superimpositions from the outside is: relying on many Lamas who give teachings, studying and contemplating the Tripitaka or Sutras, and the Tantras, cultivating knowledge through study and contemplation, so that at some point, the Dharmas become like wiping the sky, as it is said, even without practice, somehow, knowledge turns inward, and after realizing the meaning of the mind arising together, realization arises, thus it is said. The second, the Kusali cutting off superimpositions from the inside.

The tradition of cutting through from within the Kusālis is like this: Even without hearing and contemplating many teachings, if one meets a virtuous lama, with devoted faith, cherishes and meditates on just one essential instruction, through the lama's blessings and the power of one's own devotion, one realizes the meaning of one's own mind being co-emergent, unborn, and undying. When perfect realization arises, one comprehends the meaning of all the scriptures and everything that appears becomes instruction. At that time, even if surrounded by many paṇḍitas, one can answer questions about the Dharma without hindrance or fear. This is called wisdom arising from meditation, and a yogi like a lion is also referred to as such. Someone might wonder, do such people really exist? Indeed, they do, like the teacher Virupa or Togse. Through pleasing Tilopa, all the words and meanings arose in Nāropa's mind at the same moment. Therefore, out of the two traditions, our precious Kagyu lineage is the tradition of cutting through from within the Kusālis. However, some people claim to be Kusālis, writing down some small instructions, wrapping them in silk, placing them in their armpit pockets, and claiming that these are instructions that no one else has. Such people cannot be called Kusālis. So, what kind of person can be called a Kusāli? The venerable Rinpoche said: If by practicing one Dharma, one generates understanding of all the Dharmas of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa, that person is called a Kusāli. Someone might wonder, what is that Dharma that, by practicing one, one can understand all the Dharmas of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa? The venerable Lama said: It is concise in words, condensed in meaning, and easy to practice. It has only three points, you should remember and practice them. What are they? It is just this: "The body stays like this, the mind stays like this, and such qualities will arise." There is nothing else besides these three. Regarding this, each Dharma of the Buddha has different ways of settling the body and mind, and for each of these, there are different ways of arising qualities, which are inconceivable. Now, taking the example of the fivefold Mahāmudrā, there are three points: the reality of things, the method of practicing the path, and
