It is neither ultimate wisdom nor conventional wisdom. The wisdom that precedes giving, the precious one (referring to Nagarjuna) considers it to be the conventional Bodhicitta. Therefore, when accumulating merit, one must cultivate this preliminary conventional Bodhicitta. The method is as follows: contemplate that all sentient beings, as vast as the sky, are endowed with happiness, free from suffering, and may they attain the precious, unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. Repeat this thought about seven times, gradually generating it in the mindstream. By distinguishing in this way, one then gives. If it is not done this way, what will come of giving haphazardly? Therefore, one should not give haphazardly. If one gives with an impure mind, with the thought of the three poisons, then the giving will perfect that thought, leading to the destruction of oneself and others. If one asks what kind of example this is, it is like having no husk. When giving, one must be skilled in purifying the field of merit and eliminating the poison of intention. The poison of intention, if one gives with impure thoughts, such as the three poisons, then the giving will not perfect that thought. If one gives in this way, one can be born among those like householders and great trees, and so on, up to attaining unsurpassed enlightenment. Giving in this way refers to the distinction of intention. Therefore, for a pure field of merit, with a pure intention, whether the object of giving is large or small, whatever is given will perfect that intention and correspond to that field of merit. If one is not skilled in purifying the field of merit and eliminating the poison of intention, how can giving become an accumulation of merit? In the presence of someone skilled in purifying the field of merit and eliminating the poison of intention, by eliminating the poison of the cause and the poison of the path, the poison of the result will naturally be eliminated. Therefore, if one desires a pure result, one must cultivate a pure cause. When one is skilled in eliminating the faults of the field of merit and intention, if there are material objects, how can one afford to not accumulate merit and leave them aside? If one thinks that this is needed for oneself, wanting to make oneself comfortable, who cannot make themselves comfortable?

That is, how can practicing Dharma and enjoying happiness be combined like braiding hair? The great Bodhisattvas of the past also knew that these two cannot coexist, so they practiced with joy. Giving away possessions, giving away children and wives, etc., is not without a single bit of painful feeling. However, they considered that attaining unsurpassed Bodhi and not giving cannot be compatible, so they gave. Therefore, if people sincerely practice Dharma, then fulfilling oneself and practicing Dharma cannot be compatible, so either give up completely. How will it be if there is neither this life nor the next in such uncertainty? Therefore, one must accumulate the accumulation of merit of generosity. There are four objects of giving. Giving is giving away wealth and objects of enjoyment. This should also be in a pure field of merit, with the intention of Bodhicitta, even if a small item is given, one can obtain unsurpassed Bodhi. For example, a poor old woman. Complete giving is giving away children and wives. Great giving is giving away the body, like the venerable who could give his fleshly eyes. This should also be given when the time is ripe, not given at will. Immeasurable giving is teaching the Dharma to other beings. This giving is unmatched by other giving, so it is especially excellent. As asked by Maitreya Bodhisattva, it says, "Whoever is on the Ganges, etc." In addition, the story of King Great Light is also told. Therefore, one must teach the Dharma to other beings. To this, some people feel ashamed to teach the Dharma, but still call themselves teachers. Now that we have obtained a precious human body, encountered the Buddha's teachings, and met a virtuous master, if we do not teach the Dharma, will we teach the Dharma when we are born in the three lower realms? If you think that those who receive the Dharma will repay with reverence, but in this degenerate age, how can such a situation exist? One must actively teach the Dharma. Even the Buddha, who is greater than us, went to the place to sow the seeds of virtue in order for the five Bhikkhus to hear the Dharma for the first time. The Protector of the World also went to the leper village to actively teach the Dharma, let alone others? So, it was interrupted without being asked
