The Dharma Lord said: "Since cause and effect are infallible, attachment destroys hope in the mind." Once, in a remote area called Holy Land, there was a wicked king named Tumbo Rabnang (Fierce Light), who had many attendants. Knowing that the time had come to subdue him, the Buddha said to the venerable Katyayana: "Guard the mind of the fierce King Tumbo Rabnang in the border region." When the venerable one arrived there, a throne was prepared for both the king and the venerable one, and many people gathered. They made music, sang, and danced, making the king very happy. The king asked the venerable one, "Do you like listening to songs or watching dances?" The venerable one said, "I only see what I see and hear what I hear." The king said, "Then do you not have eyes and ears?" To make the king believe, the venerable one asked the king, "Are there people in your country who are being punished?" The king said yes, and brought the prisoners forward. The venerable one had them fill a pot with sesame oil and hold it in their hands, and had executioners with swords surround them, and ordered, "If even one drop of oil spills while this person goes around the city, the executioner will cut off his head." Then the venerable one said, "Sing and dance on the way." They did as they were told. The venerable one asked the king, "Did you see it?" The king replied, "I only see what I see and hear what I hear." The venerable one said to the king, "If this person does not even see anything in order to protect his life in this life, how could I see songs and dances in order to protect the life of enlightenment?" The king was inspired with faith, and the doctrine of the Three Jewels flourished. Therefore, remain single-mindedly in samadhi, and even if a hundred goddesses dance and a hundred rakshasis beat drums, do not be amazed or afraid. Even if a mad elephant comes, do not move out of the way. Even if the king comes, do not ask after his health. Practice like a blind man holding onto an elephant's tail, and do not let go. Practitioners will soon become accomplished ones like the Buddha, and all perfections will come like a Chakravartin king. Similarly, Lord Phagmo Drupa said: Sever the root from the depths of your heart, Merge into the state of one taste, Raise a great banner on the glorious mountain, All necessities will arise without asking, This is non-doing.

Isn't it cause and effect? So it is said. In short, if all the things that should be accepted in this world are abandoned with arrogance like rotten garbage, and one spends time solely in samadhi, then the mind will bless the body, purifying all the discordant aspects of the body, such as leprosy and vitiligo, and thus obtaining a pure body. The body blesses appearances, causing all sentient beings to ripen, and becomes a refuge for the world, including the gods. As Lord Phagmo Drupa said, "When the fierce inner fire of wisdom blazes, the smoke of outer bodily speech and action rises." Therefore, please keep this in mind. Furthermore, the precious Lord said that in order to attain complete enlightenment in one lifetime, it is necessary to rely on a qualified and venerable lama. Even for worldly crafts and sciences, one must seek a skilled teacher, so what need is there to mention seeking the wisdom of omniscience? Therefore, it is said in the Compendium, "Good disciples, respectful of the lama, should always rely on skilled lamas. Why? Because the qualities of the wise arise from them." And so on. If one relies on anyone who is not qualified, one will not be able to generate qualities. For example, if there is no design on a wooden bowl, no design will appear on the tsampa. The Dharma Lord said, "Without knowing the measure of inherent warmth, do not deceive those with fortune." Therefore, one should rely on a lama who possesses discipline. Although countless qualities have been spoken of in the scriptures of the Sugata, Lord Phagmo Drupa said that the ability to guide others through great wisdom, the ability to bear the burden of suffering through great compassion, and having no attachment to one's own life, not even as much as a hair tip, these three are contained here. Among these, in order to guide others through great wisdom, the lama must also cause the disciple's mind to dwell from non-dwelling, to stabilize from dwelling, to increase from stability, and to prevent demons from entering, and even if they have entered, to be skilled in dispelling them, and to be able to transform the mind and bless the continuum. Among these, the first
