Penetrating into the earth, he can extract even the lord of nāgas like the root of a lotus; ascending to the heavens, he can devour the hosts of gods, including Indra; wandering on the earth, he can gather beings to Yama and Nirṛti. Where is the place where death cannot reach, where you can abide and become fearless? If one hears that 'the wealth in the house has been stolen by others,' then the thought of protecting one's own home is reasonable. Death takes people from house to house every day. Are you dissatisfied with death? Why not end this life quickly?' Thus it is said. Death cannot harm the noble ones such as the Buddhas, but for the noble ones who are not Buddhas and bodhisattvas who have attained power, there are three kinds of death (death, birth, and death). The death and rebirth of those who have attained power and arhats are inconceivable. If the meaning of the words is explained in detail, it will become lengthy. If one lives temporarily and thinks that one will not fear death, but the sutras say that 'birth is the cause of old age and death,' therefore, one is born for death, and old age and other factors lead to death. Without effort, the nature of beings is that all actions seem to be done for the sake of death, and it seems that doing things for the sake of survival is not the case, because the survival for which one does things such as accumulating wealth exists only for a moment. Therefore, everything one does for the sake of survival is actually done for the sake of death. As it is said: 'Where is the hero of man's first night? Abiding in the womb of the world. From then on, he goes to death every day without stopping.' Furthermore, if you think that the past, present, and future are distant, do you think that these two are the same or different? This is like a cry of fear, even if a sound of non-fear is uttered, it shows fear. Similarly, having long-term expectations for the future is precisely because one must die, so practice the Dharma that the noble ones practice. Or, if you think that death is common with other things, so it is not worth fearing, then this fear exists. If you do not have this fear, then when the death that causes harm to others comes to that person, will you be happy because of jealousy, thereby creating suffering in your own mind?' This is just a combination of words. The meaning is that the harm of being burned by fire is... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Although it is common, everyone must protect it individually. Similarly, although death is common, methods to avert it must be employed. Or, is it sufficient to merely cure diseases and restore youth? Even if one is not afraid of these two, if one fears even those with antidotes, then one should fear the punishment of Yama (阎罗王, Yánluówáng, Lord of Death, Lord of Death), the inevitable termination of life at the time of death. As stated in the Vinaya Sutra: 'There is no place where death cannot reach, Such a place does not exist; Not in the sky, not in the ocean, Not even by entering the midst of mountains.' Therefore, even though death is common, it is certain to come, so one should be afraid. What is taught here as 'being killed in one place' and 'although there is no fixed time for unpleasant sounds, it is certain to come, so one should be afraid' refers to 'time.' If one thinks that one is looking to future gains and fame, etc., and not committing sins while life is not exhausted, i.e., before the end of one's lifespan, then selling oneself for gains and fame, who among the wise would call possessing or loving oneself 'wise'? That is ignorance. Placing oneself as collateral is placing oneself in the hands of Yama. As stated in the Sutra of the Medicine Buddha (药师经, Yàoshī jīng, Medicine Buddha Sutra, Medicine Buddha Sutra): 'The gods born together record virtuous and non-virtuous deeds and hand them over to Yama for punishment.' The wise are those noble ones who are free from attachment to their own bodies. Regarding 'to whom,' the mind is momentary, which can be known from the signs of change when reciting letters such as 'a' quickly. Its measure is that a strong person can experience sixty-five moments in a snap of the fingers. As stated in the commentary: 'From this, it is known that all conditioned phenomena are momentary like the mind.' Therefore, committing sins for the sake of a momentary life is not knowing oneself, so it should be avoided. The phrase 'you long' indicates contradictory behavior. 'Alas' is an expression of affection or sorrow for that. Such behavior of yours is appropriate for someone like you, but not for the wise. Or, you grieve for your own death, why do you not grieve for yourself but grieve for your children, etc.? Such a person should be pitied and blamed. Therefore, the 'speaker' should be connected to this. The reason for this is that when a sentient being is not asked to become a child, but becomes a child on their own, even then, without being asked whether to go, they go towards death for that child. This is illogical, isn't it? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
