Pa'o. Limb and near limb refer to where one word indicates and the rest explain, which is clearly shown. For example, the two words "self-wealth and other-wealth perfectly complete" are indicated in order by the following five words and the preceding five words. The first is: being born as a human and in a central land, having complete faculties, not having reversed karmic actions, and having faith in the place. The second is: Buddhas appear, the sacred Dharma is taught, the taught Dharma remains, following the remaining Dharma, and also loving others. The door of manifesting upwards is where the lower is the place where the upper is manifested, so those dharmas are shown in that way. For example, like the five faculties: if one has faith, one will initiate diligence; if one initiates diligence, mindfulness will be present; if mindfulness is present, the mind will enter into samadhi; if one enters into samadhi, one will truly know as it is. As it is said. The door of abandonment is where, starting from this, it shows abandoning this. For example, as in the sutra like "Stump": starting from the exhaustion of defilements, outsiders and those who have attained this Dharma, and being content with mere thought, and being weary of meditation, and not having a completely perfect assembly. To this, monks, I say that I exhaust defilements with knowledge and vision. Thus, the first person is abandoned. By "diligence in the yoga of meditation" and so on, the second person is abandoned. By the example of the stump, the third person is abandoned. By the example of the boat, the fourth person is abandoned. The door of completely transforming letters is where letters that are completely established in other meanings are completely transformed into other meanings, which will be explained below. The door of depletion and non-depletion is where it shows complete depletion and complete non-depletion, and the means of both of these, and the complete distinction of both of these. For example, in the Sutra of Well-Born, it says: Complete depletion is excessive attachment to external and internal things. Among these, external things are the nature of houses and wives, etc. Internal things are the nature of the five aggregates of close grasping. Complete non-depletion is being separated from both of these, without excessive attachment. The means of complete depletion is not arising, and even if it arises, exhausting defilements.

To be unmindful in action. The method of not wasting is the opposite of that. In that regard, O son of a good family, well-born, this is beautiful in two ways: from the time of shaving hair and beard and going forth, and from the time of the exhaustion of defilements and complete knowledge, this shows not wasting and its method, so the opposite of that will also show wasting and its method. The detailed division of not wasting is: This monk is beautiful, near to peace and exhausted of defilements. This shows going forth and the exhaustion of defilements. That exhaustion of defilements is also: separated from desire and separated, without clinging, passed into sorrowlessness. The host of demons has been defeated, this is holding the last body. This fully shows separating from desire by the worldly path, abandoning the fetters of the lower part by the path beyond the world, abandoning the fetters of the higher part, and abandoning the inner substance. The opposite of this shows the division of wasting. The door of establishing individuals is where it is said with these many individuals in mind. This shows that, for example, like the sutra that comes from water. That sutra is spoken with the authority of dividing into two, three, and four individuals: ordinary beings and those who see the truth. There are three types of ordinary beings: not white, slightly white, and very white. Those who see the truth are fourfold by the distinction of abiding in the four fruits. The door of establishing detailed divisions is the statement of the meaning of questions such as the four alternatives. For example, in the Impermanence Sutra: "Does he who sees all this see all forms, or does he who sees all forms see all this well?" If so, there are four alternatives. The first is: not imputing permanence, etc., to the four names, but viewing them as knowable and abandonable. The second is: imputing permanence, etc., to form and viewing it. The third is: viewing form as impermanent, etc. The fourth is: holding the four names as permanent, etc., and viewing them as abandonable and non-abandonable, etc. Just as there are four alternatives for form, so also for feeling, etc., one should view them as four alternatives. The door of reason is where the meaning of the six reasons is stated.
