and suffering, and those that correspond to the state of neither pleasure nor pain, are established as having their own characteristics fully accomplished. The ultimate truth is to be regarded as being established by the general characteristic because of the nature of being of one taste in suffering. That is what was said. The meaning is this: In the conventional, for the phenomena with outflows, whatever becomes the place of arising of pleasure is said to be pleasure. Whatever is the place of arising of suffering is suffering, and whatever is the place of arising of equanimity is called equanimity in the world. However, there is no one in the world who calls everything suffering. Therefore, this establishment of the three states of pleasure, suffering, and equanimity, which is neither of the two, for the phenomena with outflows, is the conventional truth because it is established by worldly people who follow ignorance. Whatever phenomena are known as pleasure and equanimity to worldly people, if they are practiced correctly and properly, they are of the same taste of suffering as the phenomena that are known as suffering, and they have a different nature. There is not even a little taste of pleasure in this. Therefore, whatever establishes all phenomena with outflows as suffering is done from the point of view of the ultimate, so it is reasonable to call the truth of suffering the ultimate truth. Furthermore, when all phenomena with outflows abide in suffering, then the actions and afflictions that produce them also abide in the origin of suffering, so the truth of origin is also the ultimate truth. In this way, their pacification is the cessation of all suffering, and whatever is the antidote to the origin is also the path that leads to the liberation of the cessation of all suffering, so the truth of cessation and the truth of the path are also the ultimate truth. In another way, these four truths are the ultimate truth because they are the objects of purification. As it is said: The object that becomes purified is the ultimate truth.
