Because there are many contradictions. Moreover, the fault that there is no complete Abhidhamma Pitaka in the Buddha's words does not exist, because in the Sutra Pitaka and Vinaya Pitaka, wherever and whenever the characteristics of all dharmas are explained, those are the Abhidhamma. Therefore, they say that the sutras themselves are not treatises that should be used as a standard. According to the Mahayana view, there are two Abhidhamma Pitakas, namely, the common and the uncommon. Among them, the first is not explained in a single lineage, but in many sutras, starting from the self-characteristics and common characteristics of all dharmas, those contents that are explained in a scattered manner are spoken for all three types of beings, so it is the Abhidhamma Pitaka common to both Mahayana and Hinayana. Therefore, it is also said here: "The part that is explained as definitive is the Dharma Abhidhamma Pitaka of both." The second is that the Blessed One, for those who have truly entered the Mahayana, in order to be in accordance with obtaining omniscience, starting from the ten aspects such as the place of knowledge, preached a sutra of one hundred thousand verses called the Mahayana Dharma Abhidhamma Sutra. Because it explains the subtle and vast path of knowledge, it is the treasury of the Bodhisattvas, not the treasury of the Shravakas and others, so it is the uncommon Abhidhamma Pitaka of the Mahayana. Moreover, it is said that after the Buddha's Nirvana, in general, the teachings of the Mahayana temporarily declined in Jambudvipa, especially the Dharma Abhidhamma of the Mahayana was hit by three waves of hostile forces, so that it completely disappeared in Jambudvipa. After that, the Manjushri Root Tantra says: "A monk named Asanga, that treatise is extremely proficient in meaning, the sutras are of definitive and provisional meaning, various differences are well distinguished, the worldly knowledge is the master, the explanation of the sutras is skillful, his consort is the accomplished one, named the Salai messenger girl, by the power of her mantra, good wisdom arises, in order to make the teachings last long, he gathers the meanings of those in the sutras, he lives for one hundred and fifty years, after his body is destroyed, he goes to the heavenly realm, all sentient beings..."

Whoever is reborn in samsara, After experiencing happiness for a long time, Will ultimately become a great enlightened one, And attain great Bodhi. Thus prophesied, the great being, the noble Asanga, heard many categories of Mahayana teachings from the successor of the Victorious One, as well as a hundred thousand sections of the Abhidharma Sutra. In general, he composed many treatises explaining the Mahayana teachings. In particular, he composed the *Mahāyānasaṃgraha* (Compendium of the Mahayana), which briefly explains the ten grounds of the Mahayana, summarizing all knowable objects, as an explanation of the Mahayana Abhidharma. Furthermore, intending to destroy the Abhidharma pride of those, such as the Vaibhāṣikas, who, without understanding the meaning of the common Abhidharma Pitaka, determine the characteristics of phenomena, both their own and common characteristics, and intending to guide future disciples, he extensively determined all the tenets of the three vehicles in common, in the explanation of the common Abhidharma, i.e., the five aggregates. Among these, in order to clearly show the common trainings and knowable objects of all three types of beings with few words, he composed this treatise, the *Abhidharmasamuccaya* (Compendium of Abhidharma). This, for the moment, is the connection of the treatise. What is to be expressed will be extensively explained by all the treatises, and in brief, it is the three: aggregates, elements, and sources. In the commentary, it is said: 'Why was this treatise composed? Because it starts with the aggregates, etc.' The purpose is that from this, one can easily understand and grasp the vast places of contemplation, such as the characteristics and divisions of the three dharmas to be expressed, namely, the aggregates, elements, and sources. Again, it says in the same text: 'In order to become skilled in the places of contemplation such as how many and why.' Having become skilled in the places of contemplation in this way, the meaning determined by hearing and thinking is cultivated in a one-pointed manner through meditation-born wisdom, thereby relating to the Dharma of realizing one's own benefit, i.e., the mindfulness of the union of tranquility and insight, and hearing. Relating to the Dharma of benefiting others, i.e., establishing the knowable objects, known as wise, in the assembly with eloquent speech, thereby obtaining the state of not being refuted by others and not being afraid.
