So, what is to be done about the decline of such a lineage? If it is thought that the cause of things like pots produces another thing that is the destruction of things like pots, then things like pots will be destroyed. Then, what fault would there be if the cause of things like pots directly produced the state of destruction of things like pots? There is no fault at all. Furthermore, things like pots, as the subject, does the other thing of destruction arising from its own cause benefit its own essence? It should not benefit, because its own essence has already been established from its own cause. If you admit that it benefits, then what need is there to rely on the other thing of destruction arising from its own cause for something that has already been destroyed? There is no need to rely on it, because it does not benefit its own essence. Therefore, things like pots, as the subject, how could it not be like the destruction of smoke? It should be that it is certain to be destroyed as soon as it is established, because it is destroyed without relying on other causes of destruction. For example, in your own system, you do not think that things like pots rely on staying even a little in the last moment when they are about to be destroyed, but you think that they are certain to be destroyed. If things like pots are destroyed as soon as they are established without relying on other causes of destruction, then they will not exist even for a moment, is that so? Knowable things, as the subject, if they are destroyed as soon as they are established, then how could they not be unreal? They will not be unreal, because if they are destroyed as soon as they are established, then they must be real. Explaining the connection of the proof of non-reliance: it, as the subject, if some things have this nature, then it is certain that they exist without relying on other causes. For example, just as the final stage of the collection of causes that does not hinder the production of the result is certain to produce the result, so too, things like pots have the nature of being destroyed without relying on other causes of destruction. Praising the greatness of the treatise by showing the way of being difficult to understand: This Commentary on Valid Cognition, written by Dharmakirti, arises from the ocean of my own wisdom in the beginning, and in the end, it will dissolve and sink into the body of the author's own wisdom.
