pa. If there are important questions such as whether or not there are clothes, ask about the past existence or non-existence. Therefore, the teachings of the Buddhas are beyond existence and non-existence, are immortal, and are called profound, which is the way to enter the Dharma. As such, the intention of the Buddha is to abandon the extremes of permanence and annihilation and to walk the Middle Way. Therefore, it is very clear that all the noble ones who have entered the Dharma well abide in the Middle Way. Otherwise, one would fall into the fault of not having entered the Dharma well. Therefore, to think that the Madhyamaka and the Mahayana are the same, and to say that even if one realizes that the Dharma of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers is without self-nature, one is not a Madhyamaka, is like chasing after a rabbit's horn, merely chasing after sounds in vain. Not only the Madhyamaka school, but even the lower schools of philosophical tenets, believe that all the noble ones of the Three Vehicles abandon the extremes of permanence and annihilation in their own way and abide in the Middle Way. Because the Buddha's teachings abandon the extremes of permanence and annihilation and proclaim the Middle Way, they are superior to other teachings. Moreover, each school of tenets claims to be completely in accordance with the Buddha's teachings, and all the noble ones believe that they have entered the Dharma well. So, how do the tenet proponents abandon the extremes of permanence and annihilation? For phenomena, there is a way to abandon the extremes of permanence and annihilation; for individuals, there is also a way to abandon the extremes of permanence and annihilation. First, for phenomena, there are two ways to abandon the extremes of permanence and annihilation: in general cause and effect, and in the relationship of karma and result. Among them, both schools believe that external and internal phenomena are destroyed in an instant, and that a result that is in accordance with the cause arises, so they do not fall into the extremes of permanence and annihilation in sequence. This is the way to abandon the extremes of permanence and annihilation in general cause and effect. Virtuous and non-virtuous actions disappear immediately after being performed, so they are not permanent. However, the Vaibhashikas believe that because their continuum is continuous, they will not be wasted and will not fall into the extreme of annihilation. The Sutrantikas believe that the seeds that produce results that are in accordance with themselves have the characteristic of complete transformation, and that they produce different results in the future, so they do not fall into the extreme of annihilation. This is the way to abandon the extremes of permanence and annihilation in the relationship of karma and result. In both cases, there is no self-nature of the self that is the object of the view of annihilation.

Therefore, since it is held that permanence and impermanence are not established anywhere, the extremes of permanence and annihilation are abandoned in the realm of the person. And all the noble ones of the three vehicles are thought to realize these meanings of being free from extremes. The Mind-Only school believes that since the apprehended and the apprehender are totally imputed, the totally imputed nature is not established, therefore it does not fall into the extreme of permanence. Since the other-dependent is false conceptualization, it exists as a substance in the ultimate sense, therefore it does not fall into the extreme of annihilation. This is how to abandon permanence and annihilation in general in cause and effect. It is also said in the Madhyāntavibhāga: "The unreal conceptualization exists, in it the two do not exist, emptiness exists in it, in it also that exists. Because of existence, because of non-existence, because of existence, this is the Middle Way." Thus it is said. Since the action is destroyed immediately after it is done, it is not permanent. Since the seed that produces the corresponding result is placed in the all-ground consciousness at the same time as it ceases by itself, the result arises from it later according to the conditions, therefore it is not annihilation. This is how to abandon permanence and annihilation in the relationship of karma and result. Since the aggregates are devoid of the characteristic of self imputed by others, they are not permanent. Since the aggregates exist only as dharmas, they are not annihilation. This is how to abandon permanence and annihilation in the person. Among them, the noble bodhisattvas realize everything by being free from extremes, and the noble hearers and solitary realizers realize that in the realm of the person, they are free from the extremes of permanence and annihilation. The Madhyamikas believe that if the cause and the result are one, then the cause will not cease at the time of the result, and it will become permanent. If it is other, then if the result is something else, the fault of the continuous annihilation cannot be avoided. For example, because there is a cow, the horse will not not die. Therefore, if the cause ceases at the time of the result, the cause and the result are neither the same nor other, therefore they do not fall into the extremes of permanence and annihilation. It is also said: "What arises depending on what." etc., as quoted before. This is how to abandon permanence and annihilation in conventional terms. If things have a little bit of their own nature, then other ways are not reasonable, and they will become permanent or impermanent. However, in reality, since things do not have any self-nature at all, permanence and impermanence cannot be analyzed in any way. It is said: "Or all things, empty
