Since it has neither arisen nor been experienced, the arising pervades all forms of fruit, and because its scope is vast, it is called great. The forms of fruit rely on, gather, ripen, and move, and four are indispensable; if there are fewer, they are powerless, so there are only four. The realm of touch is divided into two types: arising and what arises, which has been explained before. The remaining nine realms of form are all transformed from what arises, because they depend on birth, abiding, increase, and arising. Therefore, it is also called the form of fruit. Non-manifestation is considered by the Vaibhashikas to be of the nature of what arises, because it is said in the sutras: The great elements are its cause. The Sutrantikas and Mahasanghikas consider the manifestations of body and speech and the mental factors that arise together with them to be mind. They rely on what arises and are closely attached to it, so they are called what arises. The so-called belief that it is mind is applicable to the school that considers mind and mental factors to be one entity, but not to the school that considers them to be different. Fourth, regarding the analysis of mind and mental factors: that which merely recognizes the essence of things such as form and completely determines it is mind, while that which recognizes the differences of things such as states of pleasure, agreeableness, and disagreeableness is a mental factor. As it is said in the Madhyantavibhaga: Seeing the meaning in that is consciousness, and the difference of that is born from the mind. Mind and mental factors are one entity; the same wisdom is mind from the perspective of recognizing the essence of things, and it is a mental factor from the perspective of recognizing the differences of things. The sutras also quote the Sutra Ornament, saying: The nature of mind appears as two, such as the appearance of attachment and so on, or the appearance of faith and so on; afflictions and virtuous dharmas are all unreal. The noble Asanga believes that mind and mental factors are different entities. In the Samgrahavastu, he refutes the claims of certain shramanas and brahmins who believe that only mind is real, while mental factors are not real. He extensively refutes these views and concludes by saying: The five are all unreasonable, because there is fault in that occasion, because there is no difference in the author, and because it contradicts the sutras. The meaning is that mind and mind

If (mind and mental factors) are a single entity, then the three aggregates of mental factors, such as feeling, are included in the aggregate of consciousness, so the doctrine of the five aggregates becomes unreasonable. If it is said that feelings, etc., are established from the specific states of the mind itself, if these states are different from the mind, then it contradicts the mind and mental factors being a single entity; if they are not different, then the previous fault cannot be avoided. Moreover, since there is no difference in the efficient cause that transforms states into various states in a single moment, it is also unreasonable to regard the states of mind as various mental factors such as feeling. Furthermore, this also contradicts scriptures such as "the mind has long been defiled by desire." If mental factors such as desire are different from the mind, then it is reasonable for them to defile the mind. For example, if gold and its nature are not different, then what binds what? Because it is contradictory for oneself to act on oneself. Fifth, analyzing how the senses grasp objects: the three senses of eye, mind, and ear grasp objects without contacting them. Because the mind is not a material object, there is no contact. The eye and ear can see the color of distant clouds and hear sounds. Other than that, the three senses of nose, tongue, and body grasp objects after contacting them. The tongue cannot taste the flavor of food without touching it, the body cannot feel the tangible without touching it, and the nose cannot grasp the smell without inhaling. Also, do these senses, such as the eye, grasp objects that are the same size as themselves, or do they grasp objects that are not the same size? The three senses of nose, tongue, and body believe that they grasp the same number of atoms of the object as the number of atoms of the sense. The eye and ear are uncertain. Sometimes it is small, such as seeing the tip of a hair. Sometimes it is the same, such as seeing a grape. Sometimes it is large, such as seeing a mountain as soon as you open your eyes. Similarly, hearing the sound of thunder and the sound of a bee with the ear should also be analogized with reason. Sixth, analyzing the views of philosophical schools: The Vaibhashika school believes that the apprehended external object and the apprehending internal consciousness meet and grasp simultaneously.
