Therefore, the path to liberation and omniscience, newly arising where it had not existed before, also depends solely on the human body and not on other beings. As it says in the 'Encouragement to Take Delight in Virtue': 'Having obtained what brings the ocean of birth to an end, and also planting the seed of supreme enlightenment, surpassing even the wish-fulfilling jewel in qualities and virtues, who would render this human body fruitless? Relying on the Sugata's path, becoming a guide for beings, whatever is obtained by humans with great mental strength, that path is not obtained by gods or nagas, nor by asuras, dakinis, vidyadharas, non-humans, or those who crawl on their bellies.' And in the 'Bodhicharyavatara': 'This leisure is extremely difficult to obtain. Having obtained it, one can accomplish the purpose of human life. If one does not practice benefit from this, how will one obtain this leisure again in the future? Relying on the boat of the human body, one can cross the great ocean of suffering. This boat is difficult to find again later, so fools should not sleep at this time.' So it is said. Such a human body, difficult to obtain and endowed with qualities, is made meaningful if one practices the sacred Dharma, the cause of temporary and ultimate happiness. However, if it is for the sake of worldly activities such as food and clothing, subduing enemies, protecting relatives, etc., then one has not made leisure meaningful. Because for the sake of these, one creates many negative actions, etc., which is like pouring vomit and garbage into a precious vessel, a cause for shame for the virtuous. As it says in the 'Letter to a Friend': 'If one uses a golden vessel adorned with jewels to hold vomit and filth, even worse is one who, having been born as a human, commits sins. That one is the most foolish of the wise.' Therefore, at this time when we have obtained this extremely rare leisure, we should constantly generate the thought of making leisure meaningful by striving on the path to obtaining the bodies of gods and humans, which are temporarily high, and the three certainties of ultimate goodness, enlightenment. Secondly, contemplating impermanence and death: Although we know that leisure is difficult to obtain and endowed with qualities, we cling to life as permanent and do not remember impermanence and death, so we are caught up in the preparations for this life and do not remember the mind of practicing Dharma. Therefore, in order to

In general, we must contemplate the impermanence of death. That is, generally, all conditioned phenomena perish in an instant. In particular, the life of a person is like a waterfall on a cliff, a candle in the wind, and a bubble in water, not even stable for a moment, so it is unreliable. As it is said in the sutra: "The three realms are impermanent like autumn clouds, the birth and death of beings are like watching a dance, the life of a person is like lightning in the sky, flowing swiftly like a waterfall on a cliff." The Letter to a Friend says: "This life is full of harm, like a water bubble struck by the wind, even more impermanent than a water bubble, what leisure to wake up from breathing in and out and sleeping, it is very wonderful!" The Admonition to Study says: "The human body is very difficult to obtain, and once obtained, whatever is considered meaningful should be diligently accomplished. Like a candle flame flickering in the strong wind, there is no certainty that life will last even for a moment." Therefore, like a bubble, the unstable body and life, not knowing when one will die, yet planning to stay for many years and making various preparations, is a situation that makes Yama, who is preparing to devour oneself, laugh. The Admonition to Study says: "This will be done tomorrow, this will be done later, this will be done today, when people think like this, Yama, holding a big stick, peeks from the side, his eyes red with anger, thinking in his heart: How ridiculous!" Therefore, the Jataka says: "A person is like a warrior holding weapons, from where he enters the womb of the world, from now on he does not stay for a moment, without speaking, he goes before the Lord of Death." Just as the livestock led to the slaughterhouse are closer to death with each step, so too, from the night people enter the mother's womb, until they die, they are approaching the Lord of Death with each moment. However, without knowing this, they are delighted by the splendor of the seasons when spring buds sprout, summer flowers bloom, and autumn plant essences and fruits ripen, but they do not think that their own lives are also running out, which is obscured by the darkness of clinging to permanence, and is extremely foolish.
