As it is said. Compassion is also divided into three due to the difference in object and aspect, namely: compassion focused on sentient beings, compassion focused on phenomena, and compassion without focus. The first is focused on sentient beings or real persons as the object, and has the aspect of wishing them to be free from suffering. The second is focused on aggregates and phenomena. The third is focused on dependent origination as illusion. Those are also possessed by ordinary beings, Hearers, Solitary Realizers, and Mahayana Aryas respectively, some think so. Here, the Aryas of all three vehicles have the latter two, and that also exists in the manner of being the same entity but different aspects. From the aspect of the object being without self-nature, it is without focus, and from the aspect of changing and being unstable in name, it is focused on phenomena. Therefore, for now, one should practice compassion focused on sentient beings. That is also as it is said in the "Entering the Middle Way": "First, clinging to self as 'I,' Then generating attachment to things as 'mine,' Like a water wheel, without autonomy, I bow to that which becomes compassion for beings." Thus, regarding the realm of sentient beings, one should observe as follows: These worlds initially cling to a self that is not the aggregates as 'I.' After that, they grasp as 'mine' what should not be grasped as 'I.' From 'I' and 'mine,' afflictions such as attachment and aversion arise, and from that, it transforms into karma, etc. Under the control of karma and afflictions, they are born in various birth places of samsara, experiencing various sufferings such as birth and death. Thus, this world is tightly bound by the ropes of karma and afflictions, moved and entered by the wheelwright of consciousness, wandering from beginningless time in the depths from the peak of existence to the Avici hell of the great well of the three realms, falling effortlessly and naturally into the lower realms of the three lower realms, and needing effort to be pulled to the upper realms of the higher realms, being completely defiled by all afflictions such as ignorance, actions, etc.

arising from karma, and the afflictions arising from name and form, etc., there are three states of pervasive affliction, but like a revolving fire wheel, one cannot discern the beginning, middle, and end. Because each day one is afflicted by the suffering of suffering and the suffering of change, like a bucket swaying on a rope. Alas, all these are none other than the parents who have benefited me since beginningless time! How wonderful it would be if they could be liberated from such a state! One should repeatedly think in this way until the mindstream transforms into that state. After that, in order to liberate from that, one should cultivate compassion focused on the Dharma. First, one should examine one's own aggregates in this way: Is there something called "I" in the aggregates themselves, or is there not? If there is, is it one with the aggregates or separate? If it is the first case, since the aggregates are many, then the "I" would also become many and impermanent, which is not reasonable. If it exists as separate, then just as consciousness is separate from form, one would fixate on an "I" separate from the aggregates, but that is also not fixated upon. Therefore, there is not even a little something called "I" in these aggregates, but it is merely an imputation of "I" by conceptual thought. Just as the "I" is, so are all these sentient beings. They grasp at the selfless aggregates as "I" and "mine," and thus experience endless intense suffering of samsara from beginningless time. Having ascertained this, alas, how wonderful it would be if these kind parents of mine from beginningless time could be liberated from such a tight bond of grasping at "I" and "mine"! One should repeatedly think in this way until the mind is endowed with that state. After that, in order to liberate from that, one should cultivate compassion without an object of focus. First, one should examine one's own aggregates in this way: Are these selfless aggregates themselves something with inherent existence, or are they without inherent existence? If it is the first case, then these aggregates should not undergo various changes such as arising and destruction, because they have inherent existence, and inherent existence is immutable. Therefore, the aggregates
